So how reliable are these biometric safes? And how are they powered?
(I'd search for myself but I'm currently on my phone. And always lazy, too)
I know people (Doug and Ben) that swear by them. The reviews at Cabelas.com are mixed. Some say that the biometric scanners are buggy, particularly with multiple users, and that the cable that activates the lock wears out, rendering your safe nearly impossible to open over time, except with a key.
The biometrics are powered by a 9V battery (Correction: 9V backup and external power supply.)

Any large scale EMP release takes out your nice biometric safe, and turns it into a large paperweight if you cant find the key.
Tumblers will always work.
My safes are all non electronic.

My daddy used to be a large scale EMP. He didn't live none two long 'cause of it, niether. Mama always seemed to know it would happen like that, on account of she was all side kick, like she had ESPN, or something. Anyway, most days I don't take no truck with that stuff, or hardly any truck at all. Mostly.

There are some strange goings- on in your head, Mr. Joshua......
My Josh translator must be busted. I don't normally have any trouble.
Anywhoo...
I just cycled my box 10 times and got 3 false negatives. That's pretty typical for me. It's definitely not a perfect technology but it's never taken me more than 2 swipes to get it open. I have kids and I just can't risk having an unsecured weapon so it's the compromise I live with. If it wears out I'll buy another one.
@Jeff, aside from the fact that the electronics are entirely shielded inside a steel box, what really is the likely hood that as I reach for my pistol I will be thwarted by an electromagnetic pulse? If you're talking about a nuclear EMP I don't imagine reaching for a pistol will do much good anyway. I will concede that I don't trust the thing 100% and that's why it isn't my only option if you know what I mean.
So anyway... Am I 100% satisfied? No. Would I prefer something that was 100% foolproof? Yes. Is there a better solution available? Not that I know of.

Yeah, everybody knows that an EMP is a crucial part of any thief's save-a-crime kit.
It's them "LARGE SCALE" ones that you gotta worry 'bout. Last one killed three of my favorite raccoons, and switched my limp from my right leg to my left leg. Then back to my right leg again.

I already rode those meds. They left a note for me asking me not to do it again, and that the geese didnt appreciate it either

I've only had two mis-reads ever, between two of the biometric micro vaults. They hold up to 120 prints and are powered by 4 AA batteries. It won't prevent something from being stolen but it does keep things accessible while keeping the kids safe. My whole family has gone to them as part of our safety plan for the little ones.
There is a lot of great training available. Insights is who I recommend locally, but if you're spending money and want a really special experience, Thunder Ranch is the place for you. Gunsite doesn't suck either, but if you want a "First Class" experience, Thunder Ranch can't be beat.

I sort of preferred Gunsite over Thunder Ranch myself. Not as "first class" as you say, but i think the instruction was abit better.
Now my favorite training place was Storm Mountain. I met Andrew Webber there, and he hooked me up with one of his hand built rifles. (Armament Technology). Sadly, he doesnt build them anymore, as those "in the know" would wait over a year for one of his rifles. I have his first .300 winMag he built custom for me. That thing is a serious tack driver.

I don't know what he said either, but it's freakin' hysterical!!!

I have heard that in this state, if a cop sees you printing--if they so much as catch a whiff of gun oil around you--they'll happily bust you for brandishing and it's bye bye CCW.

I blame the liberal-socialist-marxist media.

Must be a west-side thing? No harassment East of the Cascades.

Brandishing has a specific legal definition, and "printing" isnt it.

thats urban legend. When I used to do Bodyguard work, I worked with alot of moonlighters in the SPD. If you print, they will ask you for your CPL, and chide you if your carry was extremely obvious. Thats pretty much the same for most of the PD's.
If you act like an idiot, they will treat you as one.
