Re: Need help and ideas for Point Hudson site surveys
I showed Betsy how the database works today and we discussed that very thing. It's best to keep it as one site, the same one that's always been there - 27010105 - and you are able to sort out the data based on time/date searches. That way you can compare before and after. On the link I provided abov...

Re: Need help and ideas for Point Hudson site surveys
Hi Glenn, Betsy of PTMSC contacted me today so hopefully we'll have a chat very soon! I was telling her that REEF volunteer surveyors have done 211 surveys there since 2002, so we have excellent baseline data. You can view the report here: https://www.REEF.org/db/reports/geo?region_code=PAC&zone...

Re: So this washed up on my beach today...
Jim Lynch wrote a novel about unusual critters washing up on the beach in South Sound. It's titled "The Highest Tide". A good read. I'm really old, and have been playing in the sound for over 60 years, and have never seen a sunfish in the sound. I've seen many off the coast, the last time...

Re: Open Letter From Cindy Sund Regarding Sund Rock Changes
Bringing this back up to the forefront. I really appreciate all the volunteers who have done so much work there, as Jerry indicated. I wonder if Kelp Krawlers and others have been involved ever since the Sund Family took management back over? We have gone a couple times over the past several months ...

Re: The Hunt for NEON Crustaceans!
Hi Brittany, I was under the impression that no invertebrates may be collected in Washington waters without a collection permit from WDFW. Can you clarify how that would work, or if that's even the case anymore?

Re: Help with Fish ID Please :-)
I agree with your initial assessment of a Prickleback. Under its dark exterior, it looks like it's got markings of a Snake Prickleback, but this one is sure dark and looking oldy-moldy. I also looked at my photos of juvenile Ling Cods and the head shape, while pretty similar, doesn't quite match. (n...

Why yes! It's an Armpit Blood Star, Henricia sp. How do I know this? From Greg Jensen's new invertebrate book, "Beneath Pacific Tides". YAY for new books!

Curley's Resort in Sekiu - for sale
Curley's Resort in Sekiu Washington (Olympic Peninsula) is a combo deal: lodging, ice cream shop, and the only year round air compressor for diving in that neck of the woods. The owners are looking to retire, so if you know of any folks who might be interested in buying the business, you can contact...

Water in SPG Gauge
(yes, I realize the title is redundant - SPG Gauge... :tomnic: ) Here's a weird one! I was diving KVI and Alki Fishing Reef on Saturday, and noticed my Oceanic pressure gauge had water in it! Didn't seem to harm the reading needle, and was fully functional, but nevertheless, there's water where wate...

Re: Tzip issues On Bare Drysuits
I had problems with my BARE YKK metal HD zipper, that was already replaced once, and when in the factory in November getting leak tested for something else, they said I needed another (3rd) zipper. The suit is only a few years old. I take super good care of it. I happened to be at DEMA when my suit ...

Re: Leptasterias at junkyard
That is a Spiny Pink Star (Pisaster brevispinis) with 6 arms, rather than the actual Six-Rayed Star (Leptasterias hexactis). Number of arms alone is not an indicator of the species. The texture and the shape of the body/arms, as well as the arm length to central disk ratio are also factors to help I...
