So, these little guys now have a name- and a durn good one too, IMHO. Mysidopsis jenseni
I collected the first specimen 20 years ago at Sekiu, and it's now doing a long-term residency at the Smithsonian.

yeah, if you read the disclaimer it says it isn't necessarily showing the actual item. Extremely misleading.

that's a spiny lithode crab (sometimes called a 'red fur crab') Acantholithodes hispidus, often seen at that site. Not a PS king crab.

So is three tree open for diving at night? I was planning to go recently but saw online that it is only open daylight hours.

Anyone have any recommendations on a shop that will replace the latex seals on my Fusion with silicone ones?

Over the years I've found tropical conch shells and other similar items. I suspect some people dispose of old shell collections etc. by tossing them in the sound, figuring they're recycling the materials or something

Lost gear at Lobster Shop
A friend left her mask, fins (black Hollis w/yellow tips) and yellow snorkel with the name "Rhoda" on it on the rocks at the Lobster Shop. Let me know if they turn up.
Thanks

Lost knife at Les Davis
My wife lost her dive knife today somewhere not much east or west of the stairs. Has a distinctive (pink!) rebuilt handle.

Although this is Cerabratulus, it is unlikely that it is C. californiensis- it is likely an undescribed species. C. californiensis is much more slender.

Long, long ago when I was breeding lumpies in a tank in my parent's basement, my female lumpie was an even more intense blue color than this one. All her babies turned out blue, too.

Re: How do you store and travel with your photography equipment?
I still use a camera case that came with my Nikonos setup long, long ago. Hard plastic, suitcase-like, but not thick and heavy like a Pelican case- just light plastic with a foam liner. It doesn't have to be bomb-proof since it's a carry on- never check camera gear. It fits perfectly under a seat or...

Re: A couple IDs from Alki Junkyard please
The ones I've seen have always been shallow (15-30 ft). Supposedly have been found as deep as 300+ ft but with the uncertainty of the i.d. it's hard to say if it is the same beast. They come in some amazing colors- one looks just like the Spanish shawl nudibranch. It's been suggested that they are n...

It's an amphipod- on page 219 of one of my books, which I can't name here due to the 'no advertising' rule. It has generally been referred to as Podocerus cristatus, but it is not that species (from New Zealand) and work is currently underway to determine if the ones on our coast are a complex of sp...

Re: best beginner camera? (looking @ G7x iii vs TG6)
I'm amazed by the versatility of the TG 6 when it has the wet wide angle lens (Backscatter) attached. These uncropped shots were taken with it on, same dives as the WA I posted above. I originally thought I'd be taking it off and on as I changed from wide angle to macro, but that is only necessary i...

Another vote for the tg-6. Great little camera, and its inherent waterproofness will save you a lot of grief if your housing ever leaks.

Re: 2 lower power strobes vs 1 high power strobe
I'm not familiar with those strobes, but strictly from a 2 smaller vs 1 big I'd go with the 2. Macro doesn't need much power (I only use one small strobe) and having two will give you more flexibility for your wide angle. Plus if one strobe dies you have a backup.

I go there when I'm looking to shoot specific things that I know are easily available there, and uncommon or absent elsewhere- like this Alaskan hermit (Pagurus ochotensis).
