Re: Viz Reports Thread
Redondo last night . . . Weird viz; great in the very shallow water, moderate in the middle, better at depth. The crud is aggregating into whale snot again -- I suspect the viz this weekend may be fantastic.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
That's about what I had at Mukilteo last night. Probably 15-20'.
Re: Viz Reports Thread
We were also at the Muk last night and as NWBREWER said, the vis was in the 20'ft range. Great dive until the end when we were almost creamed by some yahoo's in a fishing boat who wanted to check out what the big orange marker was that suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Re: Viz Reports Thread
Hey I met BillZ last night! Did you get your Spool straightened out?
Re: Viz Reports Thread
Hey NWbrewer! I assume you were the diver with the pickup parked facing the Silver Cloud.
The guy with the spool was my buddy Rob. I was the slightly heftier guy. He knotted it up but probably needs to replace the line. It was strange that it broke since it was only the 4th time he's used it.
Next time you see us drop by and we'll buy you a beer at the Knot. :occasion5:

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Three Tree North, 8-22-08, large snot globules in the 10 to 25 fsw range, but it was easily 30 ft. or more of viz below 40 ft. Hopefully the "snot globules" portend some even better viz soon. The best viz I ever saw here was a movie that was playing at TLSea that was purportedly shot in August a couple of years ago - viz was at least 70 ft - looked downright tropical!

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Oh, I was in the water that August day, with Bob. We did Three Tree. The viz was INSANE. At 75 feet, we were watching the sunlight dance on the pebbles on the bottom. You could see forever. I'll never forget that dive, or the one I did a few weeks back in Cove 2, where the viz was darned near that good. It's AMAZING how your perception of a place is permanently changed, when you can actually see all of it!

Skyline Wall this afternoon, ten to 15 feet at best, heavy fine particulates in the water.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Redondo last night was pretty decent--you can kind of see around the long snot strings which makes it not too bad (around 10-15' or so at 80 ft.) Dragged my husband on his first *twilight* dive last night. Saw some sand lance, tube fish, and a (rather large!) sea cucumber. Sweet!! I just wish there were more hours in the day...

Redondo 8/28
2-5 feet--abysmal. The snot strings are gone, but there was a ton of gunk in the water. And a fair current, too, at around 50'--odd!

Three Tree N. = 10 to 15 in the shallows but opened up to about 30 or 40 feet at depths below 50 feet.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
I was there tonight and it's now more like 20 feet below 50 fsw. It was worse in the shallows.BASSMAN wrote:Three Tree N. = 10 to 15 in the shallows but opened up to about 30 or 40 feet at depths below 50 feet.
Re: Viz Reports Thread
We did 3 dives, so were able to dive it at a very low tide and when tide was almost all the way in. Oddly enough, the viz at depth was better at the real low tide than it was at the high tide. And I think the "40 feet" might be a little generous estimate by my buddy Bassman, but 30 certainly was pretty spot on. Also, viz straight off the entrance at depth was better than viz at depth to the north in the junkyard.BASSMAN wrote:Three Tree N. = 10 to 15 in the shallows but opened up to about 30 or 40 feet at depths below 50 feet.

Port Hardy ... vis was mostly in the 80-100 foot range. Had one dive where it might've been as poor as 60-70. Had a couple where it was way more than 100.
Weather sucked, though ... six straight days of blustery wind, rain, and temps in the low to mid 50's. Unfortunately, I had packed for August. Fortunately, spent most of the week in my drysuit ...

Redondo... viz last night on an outgoing tide was maybe 10 fsw at depth. Not a lot of life about, other than three GPO's that we saw....
