Re: Cheap/DIY Lights and tray for GoPro Hero3

I have had a lot of luck with my setup. I just used a GoPro Flat Adhesive mount directly on the back of a Goodman Handle (http://goo.gl/o96xJ). I wear the camera on the back of my left hand and my canister light on my right hand. I started out with a beam light, but the harsh contrast made video tri...

Thanks everyone for the great tips :). CaptnJack, I will check in to the Otter Bay hoods again, Laura and spatman thanks for the heads up on the Waterproof 5/10 hood, I hadn't heard of that one, I will have to check it out. Do you know of any shops that stock them or did you gets yours online? LCF, ...

Re: Frozen Dive Buddy Revisited, Advice Appreciated

Right now he is diving an older Bare 7mm Neoprene Hood. We have tried a few different ones (DUI 7mm, 4th Element, Whites, etc), but none of them have worked better for him. He basically fills it with air inside to try and give an insulating air bubble. I've read about Cricket's custom hoods, I haven...

Frozen Dive Buddy Revisited, Advice Appreciated

Hey Everyone, Long post incoming. I haven't been around that much lately. I've been out for a few dives here and there and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the my new GoPro HDHero3 Black :). With Fall back in full swing I am coming back around to a problem I have been wresting with for the past ...

Re: Weight System for BP/W

One quick note on another advantage of the harness systems that hasn't really been mentioned, is being able to precisely fine tune your trim in the water with little effort. The weight pockets on the DUI harness move both forward and back and up and down. So I can get my trim exactly level without n...

Re: Something different: River Snorkeling in Oregon (with Vi

I could imagine you might see a raft or tuber. In all my years swimming there as a kid I never saw any boats bigger than that. I went on a Saturday on one of the hottest days of the year. Where I got in the water (Cascadia State Park) and where I ended up (Cascadia Covered Bridge) had a fair amount ...

Re: Something different: River Snorkeling in Oregon (with Vi

Well from a numeric perspective this website ( http://levels.wkcc.org/?P=Oregon.html ) says the South Santiam at Cascadia is flowing at 86 Cubic Feet a Second. The water level was low, but there were only two very short sections (around 30 feet long) that were too shallow for me to swim through. In ...

Not ocean snorkeling, but I thought I'd link this trip report since it seemed relevant:

Something different: River Snorkeling in Oregon (with Video)

Hey everyone. Been a while since I have been on the site. I got a bit overwhelmed wading through the 1200 video clips from my last trip to Mexico, so my video output has been kind of stalled out the past few months. However, last weekend it was going to get over 100 here in Oregon and I wanted to ge...

Seainggreen, Great video thanks for sharing :). On a technical note, the Vimeo embedding here requires a www in the URL and by default Vimeo doesn't have them on theirs. If you just type www. in your link between "http://" and "vimeo.com" it should work. I embedded your Vimeo vid...

Re: Drysuit undergarment socks

You might try the 4th Element Hot Foot socks (http://www.fourthelement.com/dry_hotfoot.php). They are about the same thickness as the Artics, but shorter and have a slick outer coating that helps them slide in and out of drysuit booties easier. I have them and like them a lot.

Re: Newb trying to find Grunt Sculpins in Oregon waters.

Hmm, well unfortunately, I can't remember specifically whether I have seen a Grunt Sculpin in Oregon. Most of my diving in Oregon lately has been offshore, I haven't seen any out there. If I was to take a guess my thought would be the best chance to see one would probably be a more protected area of...

Re: Cheap color filter for green water?

I debated getting a filter for my GoPro, but as CaptnJack said, light is a limited commodity at depth around here. This is especially true with GoPros and other compact sports cameras. They take great video in the daylight, but things deteriorate rapidly as the light goes away. Having some kind of v...

Had a couple of great dives at Clear Lake. Big thanks to the group from Seven Seas Scuba for putting everything together. I met a lot of nice people and had a fun day. I have to hand it to my dives buddies, touring Clear Lake can be quite the swim, but they did great and were even wearing wetsuits i...

Re: My new GoPro setup (with pictures)

Cool mount. A couple quick notes. The GoPro is very wide angle. My guess is that where you have the camera mounted like that you will get the side of your head in the footage you take. You will probably need to try and move it forward. The second thing is just expanding on the post I made in the Ore...

Beefcake, I use Adobe Premiere. It is pretty expensive, but has some nice features. On the more reasonably priced side my buddy uses Sony Vegas and likes it. BlurFix, Thanks for linking the video and for making a great product :). The Goodman handle mount worked grea...

Re: Neck seal question

In my opinion skip the Bag Balm and just rub in a little bit of seal saver on the contact area right before you dive, or even the night before. It works fantastically to stop the chafing and as a bonus it keeps your seal in tip top shape. I used to get hangman's neck like crazy, now the problem is g...

Re: New inexpensive HD video camera!

I was going to use mine for snowboarding, wake boarding, mountain biking, kayaking and fishing. The ContourHD captures great video with a very realistic field of view. For sports where you are trying to capture the feel of speed I'd definitely recommend a GoPro. The GoPro has a much more Fisheye le...
