Re: on freedom of choice & the "you're gonna die" mentality

I don't think anyone goes actual mountain climbing thinking its benign, but people do go diving with the exact opposite assumptions (I did for a long time) Now I am beginning to understand your viewpoint. From my first dive, I was acutely aware of the possibility of drowning, etc. (Involved in two ...

Re: on freedom of choice & the "you're gonna die" mentality

Continuing the mountain climbing analogy. Please don't take the following to mean that I think training is useless or unnecessary. I think it illustrates that training is not panacea and there is something else going on. K2 is the 2nd most dangerous mountain to climb. The people who climb it are all...

Re: on freedom of choice & the "you're gonna die" mentality

Thanks, I perceived that I was being called " non -risk adverse" because I am not a proponent of a particular methodology. I reread that post at least three times before hitting submit, and still screwed up that line. :-( A good friend is an avid cave diver. I ask her questions all the tim...

Re: on freedom of choice & the "you're gonna die" mentality

To me the difference is not "Freedom of Choice" versus "You're gonna die" mentality. I perceived that I was being called "risk adverse" because I am not a proponent of a particular methodology. I am very risk adverse, but I learn very differently than other people. Alas...

Re: I turned down a dive today!

So does anyone have any ideas about my wonky cucumber ?? You left that one wide open. Sorry, but I don't know your dive buddies :-) On another note. Just curious, was it too dark to read your computer before the silt-out on that first dive? I get goose bumps and think the zombie's are after me when...

Re: To the Vandal(s) at Mukilteo:

I believe that wolf-eels are protected in the Puget Sound. I looked at the WA State Fishing Regulations and each area listed wolf-eel as "Closed". But I could not find a source with their protection status.

Re: To the Vandal(s) at Mukilteo:

Did it seem that the damage was directed at the Wolfie den? Could this have been a poaching attempt? Mukilteo has had poaching problems in the past.

Re: Relaxing advise

It's not unusual to have a bit of adrenal rush at the beginning of a dive. Human's aren't designed to live under water and your brain knows that. Do a pre-flight check, stick your head under water, look at the bottom, listen to your gear, listen to your breathing. Take a few minutes to relax and coo...

Dropped DUI weight and trim pouches BHUP

Wed nite at BHUP my buddy had to pull his DUI weight and trim pouches. If anyone has recovered them please contact me.

Flooded dry suits require a bit of extra buoyancy :-(

Thanks,

Re: 3 Tree cool for slack tomorrow?

You should be OK as long as you head away from the point. I dove slack there today and Sat. and there was a steady but mild current that was easily manageable. Vis was 5-10 above 30ft and 10-15 below 30ft.

Hat
Pepto-bismol tablets (they will confiscate the liquid at some random border)
Anti-diarrhea meds

There's a story here, that someone may drag out of me eventually.

Re: Passport woes

Not really. The passport office asked him why it looked the way it did and he told them it got wet. Then they made him sign a statement that it did not look like that way when they issued it. When I renewed my last one, the guy at the passport office bent it this way and that and scrutinized it very...

Passport woes

Just got back from a dive trip to Panama and our a member of our group experienced a new and different form of passport torture. Continental in Houston refused to let one of our group board the plane to from Houston to Panama City because he has an old style passport and one corner was slightly fray...

Re: I can't lurk forever

Yes, I dive Mukilteo about once a month, usually later in the day or early evening. I'm not much of a morning person. Though I did pack my truck the night before once and get in a six am dive.

I can't lurk forever

Alright guys, I admit that I've been lurking since this board first opened. But I had to register to say how impressed I was with the handling of the Mukilteo LightHouse Park closure. Good work guys and see you Monday nite.
