Have fun, I was there last night! Visit is pretty good, not great, but lots of rockfish and woofers on the north wall.

Re: Epic Underwater Finds: What did you Discover today?

Scott! I didn't know the Tacoma Bottle King was on NWDC! We dove together at Mukilteo a while back and recovered an anchor. I want to come down and dive the Columbia one of these days. Jake Have you found anything super interesting underwater recently? Guns? Bottles? Antique Wheels? How about Flint ...

Re: My side mount kit will soon be here

I agree, pockets are something (thigh and butt) that the SCUBA industry treats like they are gold plated. Years ago my wife wanted to learn to sew, and bought a nice sewing machine. She used it twice, and now I use it to make dive gear, so I just sewed up a pouch to the spec's I wanted for about $10...

Re: My side mount kit will soon be here

Ok, so the wing is part of the harness, interesting. It looks like a pretty comfortable setup. Unless you are planning on doing technical dives (or you breathe REALLY fast), those tanks are overkill and heavy. A lot of PNW SM divers use old steel 72's because they are relatively light (and cheap!) b...

Re: My side mount kit will soon be here

Huh, It's hard to tell from the picture I can find, is the Ray Wing part of the harness, or is it independent? Look like a nice setup for cold water diving.

What tanks are you using?

EDS 2023 Scuba With Santa

Evergreen Dive Service in Everett put on a Discover Scuba with Santa pictures in December. OystercoveMatt was just enjoying the lack of a drysuit. Working on convincing his little sister to get certified, but she had a blast in the pool, and her buoyancy was great after she got comfortable. Happy Ho...

It's the west side of Harstine Island, just north of Shelton. Not exactly a diving destination, mostly mud and a few lost crab traps and buoy's for structure. We dive it out of convenience mostly.

South Sound Diving

Oystercovematt and I got out around slack yesterday afternoon to buzz around a little and let me try our diving with a sling bottle. Vis was uncharacteristically good for our area, you could scooter without worrying about hitting anything for a change! Not much for interesting critters, this weekend...

10/28 Phillip's lake dive report

In an effort to do something new, oystercovematt (ocm, because my kid picked screen name that's long) and I went to Phillips lake last weekend in search of reported spring hole that feeds the lake. We had a general direction from an old local who purported to have seen it from a drone. We also pre s...

Re: T-Handle for BlackTip DPV?

There is a reason why scooters have a Deadman switch. If you've ever had an unintentional start you know it's not fun. I made a hard turn and a piece of floating line I could not see until I was on top of it got trapped on the trigger, smashing my fingers downso I could not let go. The line was tied...

Re: T-Handle for BlackTip DPV?

The best place to find information regarding Dive X scooter retrofits is the Dive Xtras X-Scooter Group on facebook. No experience with the T-handle but you can modify the firmware. This can give you cruise control and a few other options to make piloting it easier. CC would allow you to just switch...

I'm not sure but I saw one about 2x that size on Sunday. Same behavior too, I thought it was dead, then it took off! I think I got some video, but my mask was flooding while I was trying to shoot, so I doubt it's very good.

Re: Visiting Seattle for July and August

Welcome to the PNW! Lighthouse diving in Lynnwood (really the south end of Mukilteo) is open 7 days a week, as is YSS over in Hoodsport, I think most UWS locations are open on Mondays. Off the Hook in Olympia is open Mondays and Sundays. If you are looking for used tanks and have a Facebook account,...

This next week is a little crazy for me so I'm not diving, but I'm usually up for a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon dive at Mukilteo or Edmonds, hit me up if you'd like to go for a dive.

Anyone interested in heading to Edmonds this weekend? (20MAY23), looking for a dive buddy, just over 20+ dives, Rescue certified, and cold water experienced. Saturday doesn't look like a really great day of diving EUP. Currents would be "slack" around 2, but that's a big exchange, and you...

Re: Replacing Wrist Seals

You can do that (leave the old seal) but I've found it breaks down over time and then you get leaks that are pain to find and fix. Fine a piece of pipe that fits through the wrist pretty snugly. (I've used 3" PVC with good success, if it's too small, wrap is with cardboard to get a little more ...

Re: Concerning the removal of derelict aquatic structures and restoration of aquatic lands

I'm somewhat ambivalent about the adding of structure, as long as we're not just adding garbage. One idea that's been floated however is making Mukilteo an MPA in the area next to the silver cloud. I'm pretty firmly against that. The number of sites to shore dive for crab in the area is already seve...

Re: Seeking Advice on first BCD Purchase and Insights on Sidemount Diving in PNW

I dive both backmount and sidemount locally. I like both systems for different reasons. Once in the water, SM is awesome, gearing up in the summer sun sucks because you roast in your drysuit putting all your gear on. I use steel 72's which can usually be found pretty cheap on CL and give me plenty o...

Diving with the Legend

I've been diving with H20Doctor since long before I had kids ( something like 2006?). On Tuesday I got a chance to dive with the doc and oystercovematt in the Norma Beach seamen fields. Truly a great experience for Matt and myself! Thanks Chris for the guide tour!
