This next week is a little crazy for me so I'm not diving, but I'm usually up for a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon dive at Mukilteo or Edmonds, hit me up if you'd like to go for a dive.

Re: Edmonds Underwater Park 20 MAY 23
Anyone interested in heading to Edmonds this weekend? (20MAY23), looking for a dive buddy, just over 20+ dives, Rescue certified, and cold water experienced. Saturday doesn't look like a really great day of diving EUP. Currents would be "slack" around 2, but that's a big exchange, and you...

Re: Replacing Wrist Seals
You can do that (leave the old seal) but I've found it breaks down over time and then you get leaks that are pain to find and fix. Fine a piece of pipe that fits through the wrist pretty snugly. (I've used 3" PVC with good success, if it's too small, wrap is with cardboard to get a little more ...

Re: Concerning the removal of derelict aquatic structures and restoration of aquatic lands
I'm somewhat ambivalent about the adding of structure, as long as we're not just adding garbage. One idea that's been floated however is making Mukilteo an MPA in the area next to the silver cloud. I'm pretty firmly against that. The number of sites to shore dive for crab in the area is already seve...

Re: Seeking Advice on first BCD Purchase and Insights on Sidemount Diving in PNW
I dive both backmount and sidemount locally. I like both systems for different reasons. Once in the water, SM is awesome, gearing up in the summer sun sucks because you roast in your drysuit putting all your gear on. I use steel 72's which can usually be found pretty cheap on CL and give me plenty o...

Diving with the Legend
I've been diving with H20Doctor since long before I had kids ( something like 2006?). On Tuesday I got a chance to dive with the doc and oystercovematt in the Norma Beach seamen fields. Truly a great experience for Matt and myself! Thanks Chris for the guide tour!

Re: Dive wagon/cart?
I don't have one, though I've thought about it. Looking at that one, the engineer in my cringes at the thought of dragging that on uneven ground with 80lbs of dive gear in it. I've used one like this a few times at Picnic Point to go over the RR tracks. It wasn't great from an interior space perspec...

Scuba + Drone video
My son and I were out scootering the shallows the other day and a friend had his drone up. I thought spicing the above and below turned out pretty cool.

Yeah, but I didn't notice it's only a 23lb wing. In my mind that's marginal for cold water diving, you want more like 35-40.BagpiperDon wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 9:16 pm I think I saw that @Nwbrewer -- this one? https://www.facebook.com/groups/2041166 ... 9808287940

Re: Back to diving after a long hiatus
No had issues from being bucked off horse, artillery, etc. I had a laminectomy about two years ago. Hoping I have not made it worse. I don't want a back fusion. I was given a tens, but I have not figured out what I want to do "shave my back?". It's not like duct tape, it won't rip the hai...

Re: Hello Above & Below
A BP/W doesn't have to be expensive, unless someone hits it with a car the plates last forever. There is a HOG single tank setup on the Rain City Scuba facebook group right now for $320. I've been introduced to back-plate rigs lately -- *REALLY LIKE THE CONCEPT*. My tax bracket isn't ready to introd...

Re: Back to diving after a long hiatus
The bad, in my refresher class I threw out my back when I stood up after tightening the tank strap. I was able to dive in the pool without pain, but as soo as I got out it hurt. I had to reschedule the dry suit class that had been the next day until 5th and open water 7,8. Two weeks later I am stil...

Re: Hello Above & Below
Welcome to the club! If what you're looking for is improved range of motion, look at a backplate and wing. Puts the weight where you want it (over your lungs as opposed to around your waist) and it doesn't get much simpler or durable than 1 piece of 2" webbing for the harness. I had a ranger kn...

12/7/22 Mukilteo
My buddy and I managed to get off work and get down to Mukilteo last night before the big exchange current hit. Visibility was pretty decent, 10-15', except at the surface where it had the lovely winter time fresh water mix. Finished the dive out to the east just as the current started picking us up...

Yep, lot's of days the visibility can be rather bad, especially in the first 20-30fsw or so, and once you get below that it will open up, but the crap in that top layer has removed a lot of the light. That's the lovely thing about PNW diving, you can night dive just about any time of day! :partydance:

Re: Gear
For the most part, a plate is a plate. Scubaoard for a used one, it's not like you can wear one out. For the wing brand is not as important as shape, a donut style rather than horseshoe style is much easier to dump in any position. I like my oxycheq wing, but lots of good ones out there. I would sta...

Re: Gear
If you are thinking Tech, that implies doubles and doubles means backplate. May as well just start there. And while I agree that they LOOK uncomfortable, they are actually incredibly comfortable. As far as drysuits, everyone has their favorite, and there are good/bad things in ever suit. I'll throw ...

Re: Gear
Was that list from "Divers Ready"? Thermal protection probably falls down the list when diving warm water, but here in the PNW I put a higher premium on thermal protection. As far a a dive flag, I'd drive that a ways down on the list for PNW diving again. If you start diving somewhere besi...
