Re: Kauai diving recommendations?
I've had great experiences with Seasport Divers over the years. Dive Koloa Landing in the morning most days, and take a local boat trip or two with Seasport. There are some great sites just off the south shore...I've seen a surgeonfish mass-spawning, turtles, humpback whales (who were singing), whit...

Re: Your Thoughts on Liquivision
I have both the Liquivision Xen and the Shearwater Predator (predecessor to the Petrel). I've had zero issues with my Xen (I have one of the early versions...Serial number 0068), though it was a but quirky with the first few firmware releases. It's consistently given me 25 hrs of dive time per batte...

Re: Any Lawyers out there???
I'm not sure how it works for a DM, but as an instructor, you have a duty to act. For instance, you aren't responsible for everyone on a boat charter, but if someone is doing something unsafe, you have a duty to inform that person of that fact. You aren't required to remedy the situation, but you mu...

Re: Beginners in Cove 2 on Sunday's low tide?
Use caution getting in the water. At low tide, Cove 2 has tripping hazards. Inflate your BC and put your regulator in your mouth when you enter the water. Stay close to your buddy just in case they trip and need help.
Otherwise, be conservative and have fun!

Re: Leftover Guide Lines in Lake Crescent
Imagine how the head ranger would feel about access if he realized divers were leaving nylon trash in the lake? I don't see any "nylon trash" in that area. I see a single piece of string, well maintained, on the bottom of the lake, in an area where few if any will ever come across it. The...

Re: Fukushima theory gaining traction?
Science? The science says it isn't bacteria, isn't viral, isn't fungal. I'm ruling out bananas and smoke detectors imo. I'll go with huge nuclear accident that was due to hit our shores at this time for $1000 Alex. Ooohhh, I'm sorry, that's incorrect. Radiological causes would be extremely easy to ...

Re: Fukushima theory gaining traction?
Neither does Fukushima. Can you cite any scientific study that shows sea stars are unusually sensitive to radiation, so that mass die-off could occur without seeing any stress in other animals?Jeremy wrote:

Re: Fukushima theory gaining traction?
If you're worried about Fukushima, you'd better take down the smoke detectors in your house, move to a concrete-free building, and stop eating bananas. They all have orders of magnitude more radioactivity than you'll ever get from Fukushima.

Re: What O2 booster??
I bought a Sprague booster for $500, O2 cleaned it myself, and called it good. I can't recommend using it for O2, but I vented the space between the pressurized sections to ambient and have had no issues. YMMV.

Re: Regulator Advice
I've got a few sets each of Atomics and Hog piston regs. I'm hard on gear. My doubles regs never get removed. My deco bottles sit in my car for weeks at a time. I rinse my stuff by occasionally diving in a freshwater lake. I've had zero issues with my Hogs (after I swapped them to the soft faceplate...

Re: WTB: HP100 & HP120
Actually, the Faber 3180+ tanks are my favorite for cold water diving. The 100 and 120 are both -7 lbs empty. Compare that to an AL80 at +4 lbs. That means you can drop 11 lbs of weights just by swapping tanks.
