Re: Recommendations for Dive Log PC Software

I'm glad you like it. I found 99% of the things I wanted to do were easy and intuitive but one hint, I'm not sure if you dive doubles or not, but to change from a single tank to doubles you click the tank icon next to the box for tank volume. That drove me nuts for about an hour until I figured it ...

Re: Recommendations for Dive Log PC Software

Thanks for all of the advice. I'm sold. I just downloaded Dive Log 5.0 and imported my old log book from Oceanlog. I then downloaded dives from my ProPlus2 and Cobalt. I'm very impressed with how easy this was and how I can customize the fields and the layouts. After I settle in with this, I'll add ...

Re: Recommendations for Dive Log PC Software

Yeah, I know that debate. A number of times I've threatened to pitch my PC and trudge down to the Apple store. We should save that debate for a computer geek forum. Chris, I would be interested to see what you're doing with the Mac.

Re: Recommendations for Dive Log PC Software

I want to be able to download data from either of my dive computers. The software should then have the ability for me to add notes and other info, just like in a paper log. As I mentioned, Oceanlog does this OK but not great. I'm thinking of giving DiveLog 5.0 a try. That is, unless I hear feedback ...

Recommendations for Dive Log PC Software

I need to keep an accurate dive log for every dive I make, and being a PC kind of guy, gave up on the paper dive log years ago. I've been using Oceanic's Oceanlog. It's been OK, but full of bugs and occasional frustrations. It works well to download dive data from my ProPlus2. Now I've added an Atom...

Re: May I borrow your Spare Aire?

I'm in Gig Harbor and it looks like you're up north of Seattle. It might be difficult to arrange for a transfer. You can send me a private message if you really want to come south to pick it up and return it. With the price of gas these days, two round trips like that can go a long way towards payin...

Re: May I borrow your Spare Aire?

Take the teasing in stride, it's just good natured. There is nothing wrong with a Spare Air. I never use it in the Puget Sound, because it's easy to strap on a higher capacity pony bottle to accomplish the same goal. I love my Spare Air for when I travel. It's tough to bring a pony bottle on a plane...

Re: Got called an idiot for selling my pony!

Chris, When we dive together, you probably noticed that I always attach a 13 cubic ft pony and reg to my tank. I always dive this way as a matter of choice, because I like the redundancy and additional safety factor. As far as agency requirements, PADI requires the use of a pony or similar redundant...

Re: Live Video Feed to the Surface Recommendations?

@Linedog...we do need to dive again soon. Call me. I've been looking at fish viewing systems which cost between $300 and $600. Before deciding, I'm researching whether a custom / home made solution will work just as well. I want color, but it does not have to be HD. SD is just fine for the purpose.

Live Video Feed to the Surface Recommendations?

I frequently dive from a local dock for an environmental group. The spectators at the surface are fascinated by the diving up until shortly after I have submerged. Watching bubbles is only interesting for a brief period of time. I would like to look into a reasonably priced way to bring a video came...

Re: I want to learn to Crab / Clam

Anyone have time to take a newbie out? I would like to have help planning my first Crab / Clam dive - and will go pick up my licenses and a mesh net. I live in Gig Harbor - I can go out Mon or Tues 7:00 p.m. or later. Or I will have to wait until the following week. FYI, the crab license is valid o...

Re: What's your advice for a new diver in 10 words or less?

"Log your dives and record how much weight you carry."

I've seen too many new divers overweighted and near drowning on the surface, or underweighted and unable to dive. All because they can't remember how much weight they carried on the last dive.

Welcome to the dive board! I see that you live in Gig Harbor. So do I, and I can tell you that there are some great dive sites close by, especially for new divers. I always recommend visiting a dive site for the first time with someone who has already been there, and diving with a more experienced d...

Re: Who's your LDS and Why??

For most divers, I think that the selection of a dive shop initially comes down to the convenience of training schedules or the best price on an expensive piece of equipment. Over time, equipment service and local knowledge become far more important. In the end, though, it's the personal relationshi...

Welcome to the Puget Sound! In my humble opinion, our diving here is just as good as in Florida, but very different. There is always something fascinating in the water. If you invest in a drysuit, you can dive through the winter when the visibility gets better. I'm in the South Sound where we have g...

Re: Dive Site Map for Salter's Point?

I was diving there yesterday morning and looking for boats, but the current started to get too strong and we called the dive before we could find them all. I guess that I may never find the rest of these boats! Not that I would wish a fire on anyone, but maybe now something nicer can go on that site...

If your day trip takes you to Tampa, try Tanks-A-Lot Dive Charters. I went diving with them 6 weeks ago and had a great time. You'll have about an hour boat ride to the reefs. http://www.tanksalotdivecharter.com/Home_Page.php If you get the chance to head from Orlando to the Pacific side, try West P...

Re: DCS Hit, DAN, & Virginia Mason

Thanks for passing along your experience and even the photo. I never knew what the skin bends looked like - this helps! After many of my similarly-aged dive buddies have gotten hit - I dialed back my computer a few years ago, and NEVER go into the caution zone, even then. The end of my 'green' zone...
