Thanks Greg. I did look at the scorpionfishes too but only looked at the photo on the California Scorpionfish so I did not notice they have numerous barbels on the head. I kept looking at the Stone Scorpionfish but the barbels are supposed to be under the mouth not on top. BTW that is one scary look...

Found this guy at San Clemente Island, CA. I'd say it was 6-10 in long. I can't find anything in my ID book that looks like this one. Perhaps it is a juvenile of a larger sculpin?

I don't think I've ever seen this one before. The only crab ID book I have is Gotshall and it doesn't have anything with a carapace that is segmented like this. I saw a Dirona albolineata today who had insides that looked a lot like your first photo. I don't think it was quite as dark inside as yours but close. I assumed it was just it's organs. It had it's back to me and I had my wide angle on at the time so I didn't bother to take it's photo.

Ahh, now I get it :smt038 ! I was trying to make the oblique line all the way from the start of the scales at the front of the fish to the back end of the fish. Couldn't figure out how you would count that as the scales don't seem to line up that way #-o . Thanks a lot for your help in my understand...

So, is that oblique line the ridge like line on some fishes that often has thread like extensions off of it like in this photo? Or is it just part of the other scales?

(Hopefully this is a snubnose 'cause that's the only ID I can find to fit it)

Found this small Jelly in Mendocino California. It was swimming around with red-eyed medusas but it does not seem to have red eyes and the insides look different.
