Re: Viz Reports Thread

Viz at Rendondo today seemed pretty good -- I'd have guessed 20-25 feet. But if Viz was so good, how could I miss the reflector piles? I made it from the big pipe, past the pipe boat, all the way to the Beetle (which sure is falling apart these days), the PVC floats, and the rubble wall -- but didn'...

Having Technical Difficulties...

So it's been a while since I've been in the water. Two months, if my logbook is to be believed. And it is. I've got my excuses: my grandfather in New York is ill, and we missed Thanksgiving here to go see him. Then we bought a house. The company I work at was being bought by a larger competitor. The...

Kailua-Kona, September 2010

My wife Laura and I recently spent just a couple of days in Kona, diving with Wanna Dive Kona. Three days diving (of four, total), and a mere six dives. Diving with the Wanna Dive crew - Steve, Cathy, and Bob - was a lot of fun. It's not a big boat, but it's comfortable enough, and we never had to s...

Nice to run into everybody and say hi, look forward to diving with y'all sometime soon (when I'm not waiting on a no-show buddy, I'm not chilly before I put my wetsuit on, and when my mother's not in the hospital...)

Hey, I was just thinking I'd need to post to find a buddy at Alki this Saturday about that time... this seems like a better idea. :bounce:

Though I will be diving wet, still, sigh.

Never been to a TWEEK before - is there an ur-thread somewhere that tells me everything I need to know?

Today - Alki - early afternoon?

Thought about MMM, but it's late enough to interfere with dinner plans. (Funny, usually its early enough to interfere with work...) Decided I'd like to do cove 1/2/3 early afternoon today. One or two tanks, recreational. (Heck, I'll even be diving wet.) Ideal start time would be between 1 and 2.

Re: Drysuits: What did I buy?

I dropped 8 pounds of weight from what I have to wear with my monstrous suit of hate, and it turns out I could have dropped 2-4 pounds more. Amazing! Plus I actually managed to spend much (maybe even most) of my time neutrally buoyant, another rare phenomenon in the monstrous suit of hate. "Su...

As I mentioned elsewhere, my wife is upgrading some gear as she discovers what does and doesn't work for her. Also, she's lost a ton of weight, and a lot of this just doesn't fit her any more. One year ago I was at the Newport event, test diving the CF 200x. Now I have one and love it . The worst part will be the wait. Tell me about it. I had not one, but two dreams last night about getting the suit. Do I have no life, or what? I was wondering what color(s) you picked out with the fashio...

Drysuits: What did I buy?

Went to the DUI DOG rally today, took the wife with me. She doesn't just keep me company (above and under water), she's also my fashion consultant. She figured on getting a dive in, but mostly providing moral support and helping me decide if I liked what I was diving in. The fashion consultant got a...

[ Yes, I saw the recent thread on this over at http://www.nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12902 but my thread is different. Because I said so... ] What I really hate about buying Scuba gear is the absence of data. Whenever I buy something, no matter how much research I do, I feel like it's a ...

Re: Dive light two-fer: wide-angle? and stuck lights...

i'll just touch on this, and please don't take it the wrong way... but sometimes it's nice for female divers to see other female divers using some of these items, it can seem less intimidating that way... On many of our dives, the ratio is 50/50 women to men, and sometimes even higher favoring wome...

This part has been bothering me.

I mean, if you're really a diver, everybody you know has seen you geared up. Who has time to make new friends (or keep old ones) who don't dive?

Dive light two-fer: wide-angle? and stuck lights...

Yesterday I went diving with my lovely wife at Redondo. Vis was lousy on the surface, but opened up at about 30 feet. It didn't seem all that dark to me, but Laura's not really into diving in the dark. She feels claustrophobic. I was thinking that some sort of wide-angle light might make her happier...

Lost: one fin at Keystone

In an incredible, edifying, life-or-death struggle with some bull kelp at Keystone today (all right, maybe I'm exaggerating a little), my lovely wife lost one yellow Apollo Bio-Fin Pro, size small. It's probably been swept out to sea, as we nearly were (exaggeration, again, but the currents was a ta...

Re: How many dives did you do in 2009?

A measly 18 dives in '09, with 5:33 of bottom time. But as of today, I completed my second drysuit orientation dive, so hopefully I'll spend a *lot* more time in the water in '10. (For the last six weeks I've been waiting to complete the drysuit course, and thinking it's too cold to do the semi-dry....
