Re: Old Kalakala ferry for sale $1
That looks about how I remembered it, except I was there in the '90s (I used to work on NOAA ships)... The entry for dive spot was just out of the frame on the right and you would swim out and go around a large rock in the neighboring bay. There was a local guy who had a "shop" and would f...

Re: Old Kalakala ferry for sale $1
Ahh they should have left it embedded in the dirt in Kodiak. What a waste of a whole lot of time, money and energy to bring it back to Washington. It used to be in cool location in Kodiak, down at the bottom of a cliff at a deadmans type curve, plus it was right next to a dive spot there! I actually...

Re: If you had to find a new job today... what would you do?
Well, I was/am in the same boat here. I am finally starting A job tomorrow after a year of unemployment. It pays 2/3 of what I was making before and about 1/2 of what I made going to sea (during the '90s) but at least it is A job. I would love to do the brewpub/dive shop thang too, I am a home brewe...

Octopus on TV
I just saw where the Canadian TV show "The Nature of Things with David Suzuki" is doing a show on Octopus. The series itself has been around for years and is a very good series. The episode on octopus is being broadcast on CBC (Canadian TV) at 10 pm Thursday Sept 30th or you can watch it o...

HEY! I have those shirts, but in an older incarnation. I picked them up in the late '90s at the brewery in Newport. I don't know if it is true, but I had heard that they had made the beer as a fundraiser for the aquarium next door and that the beer was actually the same as the Dead Guy ale. I always...

Re: Drunk talk - absolutely NOT dive related
Why the disclaimer? That's hilarious! Why the disclaimer? Because some (but not all) people get very, shall we say, touchy and irritable ( ie :boxer: ) when they think their reputation or that of their significant other is being impugned (how often do you get to use that word?). I just wanted to ma...

No I love going slow with my nose to the bottom. My old girlfriend and I used to lead lots of dives. People usually tended to just start following me, even if she was "leading" the dive, even when we explicitly said she was going to lead. We finally figured out that it was because she wen...

XKCD is a fantastic webcomic. I don't know how many times it seemed that the artist was watching me trying to deal with life when he drew up his comic... here is a link to it: http://www.xkcd.com One thing you MUST do if you are reading it, is to let your cursor sit on the webcomic. We have Magfloats for fish tanks.. But the stuff that grows on these windows needs a Blade.. Tube worms and Coraline algae, all over the place I understand about how tough those things are to clean off. My thinking was the magnet or lines was for YOU, the diver to hold onto so you wouldn't have to ...

In don't know if they have to clean those windows very often, but a magnet or set of lines rigged up to hold onto, so you don't have to stay swimming to stay in one spot would make the job a whole lot easier...

Re: Dive at Muk Oil Dock
i didnt add air to my BC or anything I have had my power inflator have a slow leak before, both on my suit and on my BC (not at the same time). It can happen when you get crud or salt crystals in the o-rings. Either a good rinse or ripping it apart to check and clean/replace the o-rings was the fix.

Then......why would a surface supplied diver even have a line that vents to the surface? Couldn't they exhaust gas into the water, like any open circuit diver? No, really- why can't they just have a line that supplies gas at ambient pressure, and an exhaust valve? The Mythbuster routine was simulat...
