A couple IDs from Alki Junkyard please

It's an amphipod- on page 219 of one of my books, which I can't name here due to the 'no advertising' rule. It has generally been referred to as Podocerus cristatus, but it is not that species (from New Zealand) and work is currently underway to determine if the ones on our coast are a complex of s...

Re: A couple IDs from Alki Junkyard please

Thread has officially been high jacked. hahaha :)

Greg- Can you help with the ID, I think Jan is correct that it is an isopod. The front claws had me wondering though. If you want high-res pics let me know and I can send them.

Re: A couple IDs from Alki Junkyard please

Jan, thanks. You may be right. I think you are correct on the slug. That’s what is was thinking too.

The first one really looked like a skeleton shrimp. It has the two claws and was “standing up” like a skeleton shrimp.

A couple IDs from Alki Junkyard please

Hello, I'm looking for help with a couple IDs. The first what seems to be a variation of a skeleton shrimp. This critter was tiny, belle is one photo next to a much stick, which is not very big in diameter. I tried to get different angles, but it was moving around pretty swiftly too. The second floa...

Re: 2 lower power strobes vs 1 high power strobe

Thanks Greg, I decided to go with the 2 lower power strobes. By saving so much money on strobes I can afford a better video light anyways (: Looking at the Kraken Hydra 5000s+ right now unless there are suggestions for better video lights for $600 or less. If I have anything left in my bank account...

Amazing Val. I cannot believe how far you’ve come in a short period of time. Doesn’t hurt to have a badass mentor ;)

I was on the fence with Ambon. But after this video. Let’s go!

Re: Dive Insurance ....

This is pretty disheartening for sure. Especially for divers that have relied on DAN for so many years and then... “Sorry you’re too old.” DAN seemed to rise above some of the issues that plague the industry. Before someone blasts me, I do understand risk, costs, etc... However, there are ways to pr...

Help with Fish ID Please :-)

Hello, saw this slender fish at Redondo a few weeks ago. It caught my eye because it looked very similar to a Prickleback in size, but looked very different IMO. It was about 12" in length and we saw it at a depth of 80' +/-. I could only capture the front part of it (I know terrible for ID) sue to ...

Re: A Game Changer in Underwater Photography

Basically doing the “water removal” post processing. Cool deal. The big benefit I see is wide angle. Like manta, shark, whale type shots too. No strobes needed. Which reduces bulk and flashing the animals. For macro, I’d still think you need strobes. I don’t see a benefit for the algorithm there. I ...
