Re: Not that I'm buying a boat yet? Just a question.
There are two scenarios where I've seen this. The first is fishing forums. Posting open seats is an easy way to make new fishing buddies. I have been on trips on several strangers' boats this way and made some long-term friends from it. Since I have enough friends and family that I've never needed ...

Re: WTB: SS Backplate OMS or Halcyon
I have both. I'm probably willing to sell the H plate (I've been bouncing back and forth, but I think I've decided to keep the OMS harness system and the Halcyon wing). I can sell the plate alone or complete with webbing, buckles, and H ditchable weight pockets. I also have a spare Dive-rite singles...

Re: Trouble Descending
The answer to this delima, add more weight.. Get in 6 feet of water and descend.. If you cant.. Add more weight.. Rinse and repeat I was taught to do this with a near-empty tank so that you don't have trouble staying submerged in shallow water at the end of the dive after the tank has become lighte...

Re: Not that I'm buying a boat yet? Just a question.
A slight clarification (opinion, of course!) on the "sharing gas money" issue. My background is fishing, but still involves interaction with the US Coast Guard and state LE. With fishing, the definition of "illegal chartering" is personal gain. The way this plays out is that gas...

Re: How many dive with a wetsuit in the PNW?
I dive wet. I only get cold when I have to take my suit off during an SI (I don't pee in my suit, that's gross!). Okay, the other time I get cold is changing out of the suit at the end of the day, but I've minimized this problem with a huge USIA boat coat to change under and a fuzzy drysuit undergar...

Re: Trouble Descending
I had trouble with trapped air in my last BCD (Black Diamond) for some reason. My current BPW setup doesn't seem to give me any issues. The other times I've noticed trouble decending were after tough surface swims; the answer was obvious....

Re: Narked?
Depends on the dive and amount of stress... (more stress = much more narc'd) On a typical low-stress dive, in terms of microbrews: Start to feel it at 100ft. One beer. A bit narc'd and relaxed at 120ft. Two beers. Things get a bit whacky at 145ft. Three beers. I've had quite enough, thank you. Lite...

I've been using my Hollis F1's and my ankles are killing me. Plus they are way slower. Thinking of hopping back into the BioFins... Moving from biofins to F1's will take some time, but once your ankles and legs are used to them, you will never look back! :partydance: you have to consciously make an...

Re: doubles trade?
I don't know what diameter lp85's are, but I have a really nice spare set of 8" bands (XS Scuba) and manifold (230 Bar with pro-valves) floating around that I'd consider a fair cash offer for (or a 2xl drysuit trade; I'll throw in a big red 90# OMS BWD wing toward a drysuit...). I thought I'd d...

Ok, true - I'm younger than you!
You hit it on the head; my 2-year-old PC laptop doesn't like to run the MP4 converter codecs with the free editing software. I think I need to either buy decent software or another new computer.

Re: gopro cameras?
I have only used mine on 7 dives, but I like it so far. I made a mount to attach it to my mask, but I've seen other methods of carry. There is a thread on the "gear" page here about the flat lenses, and several threads on the "underwater imaging" page about the camera. Good luck ...

Re: GoPro Flat Lens...
I went the cheap route; I bought the Pursuit Freediving glass flat lens and a spare housing. It works really well with one exception: the only filter option I've found was the one offered by them with the lens, and it is difficult to install / remove (unless you want to remove the lens from the hous...

Re: Blue Magpie Newport Oregon
... that's really interesting the USIA guy is in it (I am kinda a local diving history buff) I have seen a few of his videos pop up recently. You could search youtube for videos by CAPTKUJO (aka Kim Johns). He's a cool guy with a broad history of charter fishing, diving, and boatbuilding on the Ore...

Re: Blue Magpie Newport Oregon
Nice. It would be a rare day that I'd want to dive north of the jetty, but it would be cool to see what's left. There is also a sunken sailboat in shallow water in the middle of the bay halfway up to Toledo that I've always meant to check out. I think that video is fairly old, but not sure. As a sid...

Re: Some thoughts
Thank you all. I realized after I posted that this wasn't the right thread to ask my question; I thought I was still in ScubaNewb's AOW thread. Anyway, as long as I've hijacked this one, I guess my question was really where fundies fits into the equation; Is it better after 100 dives and rescue as a...

Re: Shallow water snorkeling sites?
Because the visibility is so bad most of the time at the Oregon coast, I haven't found much to see in the shallow water. However, I love any excuse to throw on a wetsuit and look anyway. The 1st finger at Newport / South Beach is probably a good idea (haven't dove the 1st finger, but the other finge...

Re: Putting OW students in drysuits
What's a drysuit? I dive wet and am plenty warm. The only problem I have is on surface intervals long enough to remove the wetsuit. My buddies use drysuits, and I can't remember the last dive that one of them wasn't complaining of a leak or when one didn't call the dive early because they were cold....
