Re: why it's a good idea to give a whale some space ...

I would liken the whale's experience to standing on a rock outcrop, ready to dive into the water on a gloriously hot day in anticipation of the cool relief yet to come, only to bust your noggin' on a rock in 3' of water :der:

Mooring inspections

I was asked by a co-worker if I would be willing to inspect their personal mooring buoy. I was happy to oblige but I know nothing about inspecting the system, what to look for, etc. I was going to take video for him to review, but I was wondering if anyone out there knew of some resources I can refe...

Re: OMG! OUTSTANDING Video!!!!!!

Forget the chick in the cat suit--that's an average Saturday night. Did anyone else notice those ride-able scooters? I mean, the ones they strapped between their legs? (Is that a scooter hanging there or . . .?) That seems like it would be wicked cool! Yeah, instead of a CUDA, its called a GOOSE! :...

Re: Not dive related- driving to Mammoth Lakes, CA

Motel 6 is always a sure bet with dogs. Expediient routes is another matter. I would not go through Yosemite, maybe 395 down from Tahoe? Haven't been down that way for a long time and getting to that part of the Sierras I remember being a PITA.

Some tape on the top may help limit chipping when making the final cut. I second making a rough cut first.

You can use a keyway cutter at different depths that may approximate the shape you are looking for.

Re: Going to try to build one of these....

Its actually not very smooth. The resulting 'print' has ridges in it from the extrusion. Almost like a tightly coiled-up piece of play-doh. Its best suited for rapid prototyping of rough parts with tolerances down to around .005 at its absolute best. I'd expect it to hold .010 or .015 Like the first...

What are you going to make with it? They are cool but I couldn't really think of anything I'd print with it. But they're very cool. I'm trying to get my boss to front the project. We reverse-engineer stuff for customers and could use it for prototyping. For myself, I just like making things. I hone...

Re: AL Tank Finish

I may be wrong, but it doesnt seem like blasting with a fine media like aluminum oxide would remove enough material to impact the integrity. I would assume more material is removed through dents, dings and scratches than anything else. Blasting with steel shot - now that is probably quite a bit diff...
