Re: New boat to dad and I. 30' Searay

Well dad's health isn't that great and he loves salmon fishing, so making him happy is more important now I think.

New boat to dad and I. 30' Searay

New to us, a 30' searay weekender, twin 260 hp inboards, 19 knot cruise speed at 12 gph, and 34 knot wide open. She's 30' long, 11'6" wide and weighs 12,000 lbs. Unfortunately won't be diving out of her as she will be moored in Ilwaco, Wa. and the columbia river kinda messes up the vis. But who...

Re: Anyone Using a FFM?

People may laugh at me, but I have one of those cheapy cressi full face masks. I like it. I have a mustache and beard, always fought the leaks and hate stuff like vasiline and such to help it seal. I bought one of these masks a few years back and have dove it ever since. Upsides, even if ther...

Re: Driftwood 11-1, or, SONUFABITCH THAT HURTS

Another reason I like my full face mask. My dive buddy got it twice the same weekend in the face, didn't see them until it was too late, got stung across the face. Even as tough as my hands got in my commercial fishing days, cleaning the lines of them time after time, my hands burned bad by the end ...

Let's at least go out and take a look at the bar. I'm almost sure we could make the run down to Cape Lookout. sure I will take video from the beach and whatch you all cross the bar with Marie driving :neener:   I almost can't stay in the boat on calm water with Marie driving, her answer ...

Re: Dry Suit Exploratory Research

I don't use dry gloves, as my 5mm wet gloves keep my hands toasty. I'm confused re: fins. Wouldn't you use your own? Sorry originally I was trying to figure out if your boots would have fit my fins (they are XL). Now I realize that I don't have to wear your boots to try the suit. Wet gloves? I wish...

Re: Dry Suit Exploratory Research

Thanks Folks! I am still pondering the idea of buying another used suit. I still cannot see myself spending so much money in a new one... Right now I am busy fixing the biggest leak ever... :extinguishflame: ;) I agree, and why pay so much. Maybe I got lucky, but my front entry mobbys was $30...

Has anyone dove Cascade Head, Oregon?

Wondering if anyone has dove this area. I commercial fished out of pacific city for years, and once in a while the salmon season would open south of cascade head before up north, so we would run down there to fish. Some of the Dorys would trailer down and go out of the salmon river. It looks like a ...

Re: The more you know

Another tip, I used an empty gallon windshield washer jug to plug the neck seal, ummmm, :nutty: zip tie around it or something, got the suit inflated and poof, is shot out like a rocket, about broke a shop light out overhead!

Re: Washington Crab Regs in 2011

I commercial fished for years in Oregon. I know a lot of crabbers that make one trip in december when the season opens, then bring their pots back in. They say with the price of fuel and everything else, it just doesn't pay anymore. Over the years I fished, I steadily seen the price we were paid for...

Re: Crabbing in Oregon

Right on, never eaten red rocks, guess I'll have to give it try one day. Last clamming dive I did in crab harbor at garibaldi was about 1 foot vis tops, thank god there are tons of them and easy to see. Girlfriend made some awesome chowder and chip dip. Need to make another trip back for some more. ...

Re: Crabbing in Oregon

What little bit of chasing crabs I've done diving, I haven't had much luck with finding any big enough. To better your odds, I'd bait the little buggers in, maybe toss some bait in where you will be diving before suiting up, at least that way they would be more concentrated in an area instead of sca...

Re: Crabbing in Oregon

Are you diving for them or using pots/traps? I've never crabbed in Netarts, but crab harbor can be good in Garibaldi. There are some good areas down at Newport also. And although I haven't been to Nehalem in years, it use to be very good. All of course on incoming tides. Outgoing tides, you're liabl...
