Re: iPhone 4 Debacle

I finally managed to pre-order mine, but it took many attempts, once I managed to get one in the cart it only took 3 or 4 more submits before it succeeded.
If I was n't mostly waiting around on someone else today, I doubt I'd have had the patience.

The astonishing thing to me is that the camera woman, his wife I believe did the filming while free diving.

Re: Alternatives to neck seal

I've been pretty interested in the whole silicone seal thing, soince they were first announced. My understanding is that silicone seals are still not available, OS keeps promising them, but there was a post over on Scubaboard byt Dive into Scuba that he's been told another month or two (and not for ...

Re: Water Visibility During Open Water Classes

When I got certified, I couldn't do my remove mask skill because the instructor couldn't see me do it. The vis was pretty good until 15 students went down a line kicked up the silt and knelt on the bottom, I spent 15 minutes at the end of the line kneeling and freezing until the vis cleared enough f...

Breaking down my doubles various bits and pieces

I'm done with doubles, so various bits and pieces for sale. The parts come off a pair of doubled up PST LP80's Argon bottle+first stage It's a Catalina AL6, new hydro/vis March 2010, 200 bar DIN valve, the first stage is I believe an Oceanic Delta, it's got an OPV and a 22 inch inflator hose on it. ...

Re: Need instructor for one on one open water certification.

Chalk me up as someone else who thought their open water instructor was good, and only later realized the instructor and class were barely adequate. I certainly wouldn't take a recommendation from someone just qualified for this reason. As an aside I think this phenomenon is what a lot of people get...

Re: Basics skills in one place

I can't help you out with the material, but I think you're doing the right thing taking a refresher course. I just started getting back into Diving after a couple of year Hiatus, and I was stunned just how uncomfortable I was in the water for the first dive, absolutely everything seemed like substan...

Re: Rock boot alternatives?

If I find myself 1500 ft back in a cave, losing a fin won't be my first concern. :neener: I've decided to try both hard soled neoprene booties and the OTB's, both are going to requre bigger fins than my XL Jets, my size 10 Rockboots were always a marginal fit for them anyway. Once I get the boots I'...

Re: Rock boot alternatives?

The OTB SAR look very nice, how do they compare size wise to Rock boots. I'd rather not have to drive all the way to Tacoma to take a look at them.
I wear a size 9 shoe, and size 10 rock boots with my TLS, since I assume that OTB's are sized like conventional shoes, I'd probably need something bigger?

Re: Hollis H-160 vs Dive xtra Sierra???

FWIW I've done a fair amount of business with Dolphin, I've done my fair share of diving up in Sacramento. I'd be pretty confident they'd stand behind anything they'd sell.

Re: Hollis H-160 vs Dive xtra Sierra???

I'd think that you could make meaningful comparisons of thrust, but not speed. But I suspect even that is significantly colored by testing methodology.
I don't think the Hollis was in the Tahoe benchmark.

Re: Rock boot alternatives?

I assume with the neoprene booties I need to buy a couple of sizes larger?
In which case how do they compare size wise in terms of fitting the pocket on fins?

Rock boot alternatives?

I just tore one of the eyes of my DUI Rock boots, so before I go out and replace them, I was wondering what other people were using. And how they compare?

Re: Drysuit gloves

I own the OS Systems rings and the DC Rings, and I'm currently diving Zip Gloves. I prefer the seal on the DC Rings to the seal on the OS Rings, but I'd much rather replace the gloves on the OS rings. Both are good systems, and I do miss being able to remove my gloves. I also know people who dive an...

All I know is that when I replaced mine for the first time it involved a lot of swearing, and the rings being hurled across the room on several occasions. And I'm generally pretty patient.

Re: DC Dry Glove Ring Tool

You can make one, buy a piece of plastic pipe from your local hardware store, with the right ID, the white pipe is better, the black stuff tends to be too stiff.
cut one inch off the end.
Grind a ridge around the center. To keep the ORing on it.
Cut it, and your done.

Re: Scooter rental?

I just don't see how it would make fiscal sense for a shop to rent scooters. I did one of the first GUE scooter courses and, I think between the 7 of us (including the instructors) we killed 2 gavins over a weekend. Obviously they just required maintenance, one was flooded because of stupidity and o...

Hello...

Hi, I started diving 6 or 7 years ago, I got my original cert in the Seattle area from PADI, before I moved down to Northern California for 5 years or so, where I took DIRF and one of the first GUE Rec Triox course (which I failed). I relocated back to the Seattle area about 12 months ago now, and I...
