Re: Transfill pressure between dissimilar tanks
I guess part of the reason I'm thinking about this is because I'm thinking about how best to keep a pony bottle filled without a compressor. I'm liking my new doubles a lot, to the point that I could see myself using my hp119s only a few times a year. So would it make sense to get a whip, and transf...

Re: Transfill pressure between dissimilar tanks
Well right. When I said closer to, I meant closer to 3500 than 500, so 3000 is closer to 3500.

Transfill pressure between dissimilar tanks
So never having done this, or even having a whip, if you're filling a smaller tank from a bigger tank, I'm guessing the resulting pressure would be something like (tank pressure 1 - tank pressure 2)/((1- (tank size 1/tank size 2))/2) So transfilling a 19 cf tank at 500psi from a 120 cf tank at 3500p...

Awesome post. I wish information like this was more easily googlable. Googling something like "scalyhead sculpin diet" gives you a lot of pages with simple lists of stomach contents, but very few interesting tidbits (ha) like this!

Yep, the crab was STILL there. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8188/8099090534_e86870c65a_z.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/fnerg/8099090534/in/set-72157631796248285/ And here's a puget sound rockfish (I think) hanging out in the same pilings: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8465/8099081799_f079663f15_...

Re: Food, and BEER! Soon at Cove 2
One note though, they haven't quite figured out the demand for the kimchi fried rice, so the portions, AND the price are lower. (They're trying to make the amount of kimchi they have last.) The menu lists $6 + $1.50 for the kimchi fried rice with kalbi beef, but my bill was $4.00. Ordinarily, I woul...

Spiny Lithoid Crab at cove 2
There's a spiny lithoid crab at the deep pilings at Cove 2 (The ones perpendicular to the set that the boundary line goes along) that's been in the same spot for like, two weeks now. Do they really tend not to move around that much? Will it still be there when I go try to get a picture on wednesday?

West Seattle dive tonight?
Anyone want to do a short-notice Cove 2 or Alki Junkyard dive tonight? Meet at 7, splash at 7:30. The currents at the Junkyard look pretty minimal all night.

Re: What computer
I used a Veo for about 200 dives up until I got a Galileo Sol about 15 dives or so ago. If both of you put $10 into a new computer jar every dive, within 100 dives, you'll both have enough for fancy-schmancy new computers in no time!

The one time I dove Metridium Wall, we surface swam. No problems, so scootering would be easier.

I suppose the canonical bad name example is the ling cod. Anyone know why it was named that?
Someone should discover a new species of cod and call it the turquoise greenling in retaliation.

I haven't actually had the chance to take a look at the live feed myself, but it sounds kinda interesting.
I'm assuming he's using sidemount, and a max depth of 15 feet. I would just go nuts not being able to take a crap for that long!

Re: Fish ID question
Possibly a hooded nudibranch on the first one? Stomach wings are tiny, like strap a few grains of sand together tiny. Second, was the snakelike critter swimming with a sinuous, full body swimming motion? Really, really thin? Quillfish? Bay pipefish are sorta stiff-bodied, so it wouldn't be that sinu...

So I can see two orange buoys floating in the middle of Elliott bay right now. What're the chances that they're the old cove 2 buoys? Whatever happened to them?

Either one, since I'd conceivably have to deal with either situation.
The telephone lanyard seems like a good idea. I just have these horrible visions of being on a wall, fumbling the camera, and watching it go bye-bye.

Shutoff drill with a camera
Like, how would you do them? Also, what would be the best way to deal with a camera along with all the other gear you need?
I usually dive with the camera lanyard-ed to my wrist, but that's really not going to work for tech.

Re: Scootering Salt Creek
Nice video, and the Yoshida Bros. always make for a good soundtrack! I've done all of two dives at Salt Creek, and the entrance isn't so bad. In doubles, it'd be a PITA though. The second dive, we swam out way past the kelp beds and into the rocks at 60-80 feet, which was actually the more fun dive ...
