Re: Fox Island West Wall 3/22 - recap and lessons!
Congrats on getting back to the surface in one piece! Something I do when donating a regulator, I keep a hand on the OOA diver's valve stem as we head to the surface. This keeps them from having to futz with things, and keeps the octo from coming out of their mouth. That wouldn't work for cave divin...

Tacoma Narrows drift GoPro
So, has anyone filmed a Tacoma Narrows drift dive with a GoPro? A cursory google search doesn't turn anything up.

I'll just say that I recently used about 35 cu. ft. of air, sharing with someone else, getting back up from 90 feet. That's almost half an al80!

Re: What would I do if.....?
I know one issue I faced early on was gas consumption at depth, and knowing about what I could expect at what depth. I got my OW in Hawaii, immediately did two drysuit dives in Iceland, then, excited by the knowledge that it was POSSIBLE to dive in waters like this, did my AOW here. The AOW went fin...

Re: LP vs HP Steel Tanks and SOFT vs HARD goodman handle for
I really like my hp119s. You can go somewhat deep, then spend a nice long time coming back up and poking around without worrying about running low on air. I'm 5'9" and the weight and size are just fine for me. That said, they can be overkill for boat dives, where you go to depth, then come righ...

Re: Diver Missing At Cove 2 (11am Today 2/19)
Considering we don't know exactly what happened and the diver is the only one who does, most likely not. We don't like to speculate on things like this and its best just to take the lesson that things can go wrong and sometimes do. Drive around when not diving and mull things over in your head. &qu...

Re: Know who dives near the bay area?
My memories of Monterey are the Monterey crawl, and having sand get in my inflater valve, causing it to get stuck. It WAS during the supermoon, and the biggest tidal exchanges of the year, but man, that was some of the toughest diving I've done so far. We went to Bamboo Reef for gear rental, and the...

Was Joanna one of the first team that found the body? I'm in the same dive club she is and I'm a little worried about the person who went to the chamber. I hope tragedy isn't compounded.
It's good that you were around to do all this.

Day island isn't too far away, although parking can be hazardous.
My favorite wall dive ever so far has been Snake Island wall in Nanaimo, though it's a a boat dive, and in Nanaimo.

The easiest way to tell is to see if they swim with their pectoral fins, or with their hind fins. Also, a seal's pectoral fins are relatively small, while the guy you saw has big ol' pecs. On a side note, viz at Edmonds was around 15', with tons of cabezon on eggs: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7024...

Heads up for the easily saddened
I saw a dead harbor seal pup at Alki Junkyard last wednesday at around 40 feet, near the line that runs parallel to shore. I don't know how fast things decompose/get eaten down there, (there was already a sunflower star and a bunch of shrimp on the carcass) but if anyone wants to know, there ya go.

Re: Snow Dive Anyone???
I would, but unless you have a spare tank with a DIN valve, I wouldn't have any air.
Really though, there's some ice diving contingencies that you should know about before doing a dive in this kind of weather, and it's probably wisest to have an environmentally sealed first stage.

Re: ??Pacific Northwest Diving Documentries??
This guy lives on Whidbey, and did a pretty good documentary on local sea life:

Other than that, there's not too many full-length documentaries on Puget Sound stuff, which is really unfortunate.

Re: Narked?
Early on, I got CO2 narked at 80 feet, which wasn't particularly fun, but it did teach me to breathe slowly and deeply from then on.
I start feeling it pretty consistently at about 100 feet. When I'm in tropical waters, colors start becoming more brilliant, and up here, it's too dark to notice.

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Considering how often I see fish leeches though, do you know how much they affect the health of their host? Are there the equivalent of tropical cleaning stations, or other critters that'll eat the leeches?
