Re: Planyourdive Replacement for current predictions

I just use NOAA. Their thing is making sure they know what the tides and currents are to make sure shipping can happen. Currents: https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaacurrents/Stations?g=698 Tides: https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/tide_predictions.html?gid=1415 Just look for the tide station close...

Re: New to tech

It's fun to go to the Not MT6 over in Cove 1. It's 60m/200 feet, and you'd better have some helium in your mix!

The lake has a bunch of fun wrecks, and there's some good deep wall dives in Tacoma.

I'm seeing 51-52 degree temps as of last weekend. Not summer temps yet by any means, but not bone-chilling either.

Re: New to tech

Do you have a scooter? Most tech dives around here require one. At your level, you can do the Valiant in Lake Washington, or long kick dives at 100 feet, but with a scoot, that opens up the Alki fishing reef, Cove 2/monolith as a deco dive (40 minutes at 100 feet nets you 5 minutes of deco or so. If...

So I think the wound above the shark's pectoral fin is just a normal marking, and not a wound. Both these sharks have similar markings on both sides:

If by Archis, you mean Josh, then yes. I dive with him a lot, but we are not the same person!

Looks like the canary has the streaks on it's face like the blue rockfish, and the yellowtail doesn't.

I'm thinking of replacing my OMS manifold, just because it takes like, 20 turns just to turn a valve on or off. Total PITA when ding a valve drill.

Cove 2 Seal

Has anyone given this seal a name yet? I'm talking about the lighter colored one with the tan patch on it's lower left hand flank. I've seen it on like, 90% of the dives I've done at Cove 2 for the last few months. I feel like if it's that much of a regular, it should have a name. Fishchomp McSiltsp...

Manacled sculpins on the buoy lines at Cove 2

There are a number of manacled sculpins on the yellow buoy lines, at around 10-15 feet or so. I tried to get a picture of them, but my camera crapped out tonight. (The flash stopped working, meaning the strobe won't fire, meaning black pictures! Yay!) If you've never seen one, or you want to get a p...

On open circuit no less. 32.12 ATM, and with a good consumption of 0.5 cf/m, an AL80 lasts 5 minutes. I'm guessing he looked like a huge jumble of tanks with two tiny little legs sticking out while descending.

Alki Fishing Reef. I've been trying to do more REEF surveys there, since it's a bit under-represented in the DB.
