Re: Scuba 72's
Unless you're a collector of old scuba gear, the only old tanks I would bother buying would be galvanized steel LP72's. You can often get those cheap and in good condition and they have some good characteristics to them, (lightweight, near neutral, long). They're a little small for a lot of dives th...

Re: WDFW GPO update: Seacrest Cove 1,2,3 now included in opt
So what in this whole mess really warrants scientific study and analysis? Are you serious? WDFW, laws and regulations for an entire state, managing a natural resource for all the public to enjoy, protecting a species, thousands of divers and tens of thousands of fishermen, and the legal consequence...

No it's not. Expressing your disapproval or taking pictures of something is not the same as harassment or interfering with a harvest.Fishstiq wrote:This is illegal.

Re: WDFW GPO update: Seacrest Cove 1,2,3 now included in opt
I think we should stay focused on octopus protection only. We're more likely to achieve our goals that way. Dragging other conservation issues into it dilutes the purpose of the initiative, and produces side arguments that will only distract from what this initiative was intended to achieve. Beside...

Re: WDFW GPO update: Seacrest Cove 1,2,3 now included in opt
I think that the easiest way to resolve this would be to close the very popular dive sites to any harvest by divers. Never mind the hook and line guys. I'm guessing that about 90% or more of us can agree that there shouldn't be any hunting going on in places like Redondo, Les Davis or Cove 2. As for...

Re: GPO Input needed!
GPO's should be protected in popular dive sites, but not elsewhere. They're not uncommon, they lay a lot of eggs, they have a short lifespan and very few people actually hunt them. That all adds up to a sustainable fishery and there's no rational reason for cracking down on it. On the other hand, hu...

Re: Diggin for ducks
The best places to get them are on private tide lands. Now a lot of these actually are open to the public. How far out a property owner owns depends on when the original title was issued and can extend all the way out to the lowest low tide mark and beyond or simply to the high tide line. The later ...

Yes it did say in the extended piece that they only dive 3 months of the year in the winter when their cold blood is even colder and are less active. The whole piece just blew my mind..like swimming with GW's wasnt enough. Id take my chance with the shark ...as the show said crocs kill wayyyyy more...

If you've ever watched piranha in a tank with feeder fish you're probably aware that they don't eat that often. Those feeder fish can swim around free and unmolested for days and then at some point the piranha get hungry and go for them. I suspect it is also the same around large predators like croc...

Re: A life altering dive
We've spoken about it and in the future I might get it done. My cardiologist feels that at this time medication is a better option. Right now Metoprolol seems to keep it pretty well controlled and what I typically experience usually only lasts for a few seconds at a time. Plus, I find it keeps me on...

Re: A life altering dive
I've suffered bouts of a-fib since age 27. I've even felt a few flutters underwater. Everyone's different, but as for me, I seem to have a sensitivity to certain drugs. Alcohol will really throw me for a loop. Last time I had a beer, (many years ago), I had to be cardioverted. Caffeine messes me up ...

I've dove the Hydroglove reproductions of the old dry suits and compared to what we have today they are pretty miserable. If you've never experienced one, here's how they work. You have this thin latex suit. It looks like something the gimp from Pulp Fiction would have worn. Super fetishistic and if...

Re: Reconciliation Park?
I've dove extensively at the Old Town Dock, just west of Reconciliation Park. I heard one negative review of RP about a year ago and because of that, I haven't got around to it yet. There is a large mound of rocks just west of it, between the dock and the park, that starts at about 40' deep and exte...

Re: Just north of Chambers Creek. Anyone done this?
I'm dredging up an old thread here, but I was searching for something else and came across it and realized I had dove the site in question. It wasn't that spectacular. I dove it about a year and a half ago, so my recollection's not perfect, but it wasn't that hard to get to at all. There's a parking...

Re: What cylinder do you dive, and why?
I looked at your profile, and apparently you're female and your deepest depth was 112'. You also apparently do shore dives. Considering that, big tanks like 119's and 120's and 130's will probably be more of a liability than a benefit to you if you have to pack more tank than you need to the shore. ...

Re: Ling Cod slot limits - how's that working out for ya?
Why not just have an upper size limit and maybe a 5 fish limit for the season? As others have mentioned, it doesn't hurt the species any more to take a fish under 26" than one over. Those fish aren't breeding anyway. What hurts the species is if someone shoots a 25" fish and then throws it...

Re: Cold after a Dive
You could try some chemical heating pads. They're sodium acetate inside a soft plastic shell with a little metal disc inside. When you snap the disc it triggers a chemical reaction that lasts about 40 minutes producing about 130 degree heat. You boil them for about 15 minutes to "recharge"...

Re: Diver accident at Redondo 5-15
Glad I'm not the only one who thought that explanation sounded like a legal defense rather than a description of a dive accident. I especially liked the part about the facts being irrefutable, including the 40' vis. What I'm really wondering is how did the victim come to be lying unconscious on the ...

Re: Water Visibility During Open Water Classes
It seems to me that while bad visibility is an occasional fact of life around here, you don't want to expose new and untested divers to it on their first certification dives if at all possible. Chances are they're already quite anxious and have developed few skills for coping with bad situations und...
