Re: Want a diving job?

Too funny, when I was working with my father-in-law I made the mistake of laughing at him once when he got turded while cutting a sewer line. I inherited the "duty" thereafter!

Cake, pie, and cheeseburgers. Lots of them. Or just carry less. I find that it works quite well to buy stuff like dry suit suspenders, titanium knives, and a plethora of other must have things and then just leave them all at home. After a while you forget that you even have any of the stuff, much le...

Re: Anchor Chain at Redondo

That's what I'm thinking too. We had headed out a ways west after the wolfies and bottlefield. We hit the chain on the way back in and wound up at the fishing pier. The current was clipping right along northbound so it's hard to say where we ran into it.

Re: Many shipwrecks in the columbia river

RHI right? Don't blame you, keels with sunlight on them are a really bad thing! On the upside it would give Stn Cape D something to do in case they were having a boring day, played it up right might even mean a helicopter ride to Astoria...... We're talking a drift dive from DIW to Titlow but gotta ...

Jealous

A buddy of mine from high school is the skipper of the MPV Global Explorer, which has a six-man sat dive team rated to 1000 fsw. I am beyond jealous! (not of the sat divers, of Steve!!!) His reward for suffering through Navy time!

Re: Many shipwrecks in the columbia river

I'm thinking July-ish would be the time as to avoid the Buoy 10 mess; would have to have a couple of dates and make the go no-go decision within that week based on weather forecasts. I recall a thread of some folks talking about boat diving down the coast, did that ever happen? If so their input as ...

Anchor Chain at Redondo

So last night we happened across an anchor chain (pretty decent size links) that I would deduce was a mooring chain. Now to figure out what was moored there.........

Re: Many shipwrecks in the columbia river

The area immediately north of Peacock was no-ops due to the refraction waves (worse than the ones in the Gap at Tatoosh) but the crabbers went in there all the time. Which reminds me, there were a lot of commercial crab pots north of the spit as well, had a line wrap around one of the shafts on the ...

Re: Many shipwrecks in the columbia river

Cherry Picker? Yessir! But thinking more about it, it would be a great dive to do for the challenge of it. I'm thinking a trip out to Carter Lift Bags in Enumclaw to pick up one of their 12 foot SMBs, wait for a quiet day on the bar, stay close(r) to one of the spits so as to be out of the VTS lanes...

Re: The ongoing 'Dond Lumpie and Friends Show ...

Viz was pretty darn hazy. @nd dive was a drift dive as the Redondo river was flowing north. Yawed into the current and headed to the wolf eel nursery, they were both there.

Re: Many shipwrecks in the columbia river

Here's a link to some of the wrecks http://www.fluxstories.com/2011/06/braving-the-bar-shipwrecks-2/ The difficult with diving the bar is 1) Marine Traffic 2) 4-8 knot current 3) Sea State When I went to NMLB School we did our surf days off Clatsop Spit (the south one) as it was "safer". W...

A buddy found one about 25 feet south of the MAST pump during their safety stop last night. We went in a half hour later and despite a line search didn't find it, naturally! Take Ron or Bob when's he's healed up, they're the Lumpie Masters!

We were forming icicles at Redondo last night as well. A planned 2 dives turned into one when I discovered I hadn't smoothed out my neck seal. Looks like stubbys and grunts were prolific in the south sound last night!
