Re: Save Us
When people say "Save the Planet", I tend to remember that the earth has gone through at least four massive extinctions in the past, when as much as 90 percent of the species were wiped out. Each time the earth rebounded with new creatures to replace them. The planet will to fine. The conc...

Re: Muk state Park 3/28/2011
Thank you very much for the compliments.... Yes I had current the whole time for some reason? Even though it was supposed to be slack Slack is difficult to predict there and the current seems to be driven by long periods of winds. e.g. the southerly wind we have been experiencing would produce a no...

Re: Cape Alava Inquiry
I just got back from REI with my new hiking boots. I have hiked all of Washington's wild coast over the years, but it has been decades since I have been to Cape Alava. CaptnJack: Snorkeling is a good idea. I want to see the animals in the water. I don't need to prove I am a diver. :snorkel: Nwbrewer...

Cape Alava Inquiry
Several years ago I met a diver who claimed to have dived tidepools off Cape Alava. He said he packed his gear in from Lake Ozette and awaited low tide. According to his account, tidepools a quarter mile across and 50 feet deep emerged. They were filled with life and had exquisite visibility. Has an...

Re: Awesome finds at TTN!
I'm sure some of the professional biologists can comment with more expertise, but I talked to a marine mammal specialist in encountering several dead pinnipeds on a dive in Monterey last year, and he said that the increased population has produced so many offspring that mortality is more apparent. :...

I will be hiking in Montana with some old Navy friends (either way you read it is correct, old navy or old friends) and will miss it. In addition to gear, there will be representatives from the various dive destinations there as well, if that interests you.

T-dock open again
I just finished a dive at Lighthouse Park when Morningdiverbob pulled up. He said they would be removing the evil sign at the T-dock today. Sure enough, when I drove over there, the sign was gone. Go and enjoy.

I especially love reading the Questions/Answers. On page two I came across this little gem: Q: Have u ever defected in ur suit? 15-Mar-11 A: I have never given up my allegiance. Another good source about Beebe is: Descent, by Brad Matson (2005). I read Beebe's book as a boy many years ago. When I met Brad at a diving conference and found he had written a biography of Beebe, I couldn't buy it fast enough. Kelly, thanks for the heads-up. I may have to turn on my television. -...

Mukilteo clay ledges, T-dock alternative
The closure of the T-dock caused us to head to Lighthouse Park and dive the clay ledges. With all of the rain we've had, I expected the worst. I was wrong. Visibility opened to about 20 ft. Expect sea lion encounters. Four swam by us as well as a harbor seal. Some of you might consider that a good t...

I believe the "squizzle things" are arrowworms. A great sighting. Regarding the current: we had three days of very strong south winds. I believe you were experiencing a wind generated current. I was diving the old fuel pier at Mukilteo with Bear and planned on riding the last of the ebb ba...

Spatman: I agree. I'm one who mis-interpreted one of your posts which you intended as a joke. This is not characteristic of me as I am among the more jocular people you will meet and I avoid confrontation. I mess up all of the time. One example: A game warden approached me and asked for my crab lice...

Last week I saw a parked car with dive decals all over it. I asked the woman sitting in it if she were a diver. She said no, that the car belonged to her late brother. She then said that he brother's remains were "hidden" in the water off Alki. It sounds like he is no longer hidden.

Jake: Thanks for saving me the trip. I haven't dived PP for years, not because of the walk, but because we have better choices. Aaron: Wonderful post and, of course, a great video. People dive for many reasons: the sense of exploration, the technology, the natural world, hunting, wrecks and nautical lore, or just the sensation of being weightless - almost like flying. I believe they are all legitimate motivations for diving....

John: Thanks for the posting. I am captivated by all of the lore of the sea. A Minke whale surfaced off my beam lunge feeding toward my boat. While delighted at s...
