Re: Hi! - another newbie intro

Thanks to everyone else too!
I have family in Tacoma and near Seattle, so it definitely is possible that I come up some Friday night and stay the weekend.
Just not very flexible during the week with a kindergartner and a preschooler (and coast guard spouse).

Re: Hi! - another newbie intro

Hi Greta, welcome. Despite diving around here for eons I just recently jointed NWDC myself. I saw your interest in GUE classes/workshops on another thread and although I don't have any information about upcoming classes, I've taken a lot of classes with GUE. If you anticipate taking a class and wou...

Re: Oct. 24 - NWDC Club Dive ... Keystone!

I'm putting this on my calendar. Anyone from Salem wanna go up together -- maybe go up on Saturday, do a night dive at Alki, grab a cheap hotel (or couch surf w/ some locals -- any free couches out there?) then head up to Keystone Sunday morning? That's my plan, anyway... the more the merrier. I am...

Re: solo diving

In the PNW I don't think I would EVER dive solo. I used to do the equivalent of solo diving in Florida for work, but was never completely comfortable with it. There would be 4-5 of us in the water doing coral transects but we were all working solo, and not always within sight of one another. I would...

Re: Hi! - another newbie intro

Another note: I would definitely consider myself a cold water novice. New to the gear (don't actually own most of it - can borrow from my old employer almost any time), the temps, all the weight, etc... I probably have less than 15 dry dives under my belt and 8 of those were work (WAY overweighted)....

I can definitely vouch for the 2-3' vis. That's on a good day.
I wouldn't dive around Astoria/Hammond/Ilwaco for fun, personally...

Hi! - another newbie intro

Hi, I am another person living in the Astoria, Oregon area. We moved here three years ago from Florida. I have yet to dive recreationally in the PNW, but have had the pleasure of the odd work dive over the past year in the Columbia River estuary. I am getting laid off soon, and looking to do some re...
