Re: I got a DUI this weekend
ahh, I miss the PNW... and my dry suite. I'm trying to figure out how to lighten my feet now, I got so used to the "floaty feet" that I have to actively work to keep my feet up when I'm diving wet.

Re: What else do you do?
Hey guys, I've been away for a while and thought I would chime in! My free time has gone to research and grading - working on MS in Biology down in Texas. I actually made my first dive in a year last weekend, which was to inspect the keel of my 40' sailboat/home, which gets the rest of my free time....

Re: RUNAWAY!!!!!
Well, we dodge the storm... although my brother goes to school in Alvin, which got hit. He is out for a week right now. We got to watch his apt on the news, which was entertaining.

RUNAWAY!!!!!
Seems a little futile to move 250 miles inland to avoid a storm that's forecasted to be 500 miles across...but what the heck, no classes! Ya'll go ahead and enjoy your temperate environment, I'm going to sit on my porch in my dive gear and wait for Ike, It's the closet thing to diving I've been able...

hey now, it clearly states that the air bubble carries the shark to the surface before blood is released "Thus giving the diver added protection by diverting other potential predators to the surface."

I love my macbook
Well... much to my father's disappointment, I switched to Mac this week. It was a little grad-school present for me and it's AWSOME!!! I set up my email, I've been using outlook express which takes like 20 min to setup with gmail (finding the right port numbers and configuring it)... for my macbook,...

Very nice site Bob! Although, you should have a goldfish in a bottle around your neck in your bio pic, or maybe a Sea Lemon.... Dare I ask what this is in reference to? :dontknow: I was kinda wondering about that myself ... ... Bob (Grateful Diver) It's from "What About Bob?!" The scene w...

Re: Everything is bigger in Texas....except the ferries
I'll get some photos...I was SO mad that I left my camera in my car (I was in a work vehicle) for that trip...I saw some wild boars, turkey, Roseate Spoonbill, white and blue herrines, armadillos, and some other critters. Oh, well, I'll go bach to the park again soon, I'm sure. I will be back up to ...

Everything is bigger in Texas....except the ferries
I had to make a run up to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge to pick up some turtle eggs last week, which required a "ferry" ride in Port Aranses...lol, ya'll would love it. Holds maybe 8 cars, the entire trip takes 5 minutes...but hey, it's free! I tried to find some photos for you, but...

Re: I'm going Pro
Thanks for the replies! It helps to know that this isn't only SSI's train of thought, and since the gear is close to what I dive anyways...I suppose it's not that big of a deal. I don't mind selling things, but I'm generally too honest for it. If a student asks me if the rig I dive in class is the s...

I'm going Pro
So...I've started my SSI DiveCon down here in Corpus Christi,tx (i like you guys better then the local forum) and I am having a little trouble shifting my mindset from a rec diver to a "dive leader." I know a lot of ya'll are pro, so was this change in thinking easy for you or is this part...

aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha....it's sunny and 80 here. I agree with ben though...I havn't been able to dive in a while. BUT!!! I did find an alluminum tank washed ashore this week.. I doubt it's any good, but enough of jake rubbed off on me to keep it and verify it's still in hydro. I just need to ...

Sooooooooo......you want to be a Marine Biologist...*evil laughter* I graduated from Western Washington University with a B.S. in Biology with a Marine Emphisis. This is fairly common from people I've talked to. Just plan for a B.S. in Biology and take whatever marine classes that interest you. With...

What it takes to save the turtles
SO, I thought I would let ya'll know what all I'm doing down south. I know I mentioned it before, but I'm done with my training and am now in a better position to let you know what's involved with reestablishing the historical nesting site along Padre Island National Seashore. Kemp's Ridley turtles ...

How's the diving there in Texas Kevin? :evil4: Man, I haven't had a chance to dive....this whole, save the sea turtle thing has me working my butt off, and I've been helping out at my dad's base-ball place on the weekends. I did get one dive in a few weeks back in Lake Travis, they have some boats ...

Re: Stingray Kills Woman - Just Weird
Not to take this thread off topic, but they ran us through training on this down here. My new job requires me to camp a few nights half-way down Padre Island (near where this happened) and due to the high numbers of sting-rays, or sting-ray like organisms, we are encouraged to do the "sting-ray...

Re: Hello from the south!
It's not too bad...what I'm not looking forward too is this summer. I'll be working on the beach (which is AWSOME), Doing sea-tutle conservation (which is reallly cool), but it's for the national park...so I have to wear the uniform...with jeans(less awsome).

Hello from the south!
Hello northern friends, I thought I would let ya'll know that I'm settling into Corpus nicely. Aside from the sunshine, heat, and humidity, it's a lot like the PNW :smt064 hehehe. Diving is all off-shore down here though...which sucks(i like not having to pay for charters), I have to drive to Austin...
