Happy Birthday Curt! :bday: Glad you got to celebrate in style! Seeing a blue whale most have been wow! Don't know if I mentioned this but in sept we had some really great whale action near Port McNeil BC, you may want to check that area out if you haven't already. The krill were so thick in some ar...

Redondo 2024

Hi Divers! We got word that there will not be annual parking passes available for parking at Redondo in 2024. They're finally going to get around to pier and restroom repair. Unfortunately, the timeline and impacts for the upgrades is not available as of yet but the marina decided not to offer parki...

Re: San Juan/Orcas Diving

I love the San juans, I was lucky to get out in a boat there on Thursday! Shore diving is tough out there! My favorite San Juan shore dive is skyline. No ferry needed and this site can be just as good as many of the boat dives out there. 😀 Orcas is a challenge to get a good dive in. You're right, sj...

Re: Canon 5DMKIII Naudicam housing

I think a prime (non zoom) macro lens would probably be your best bet. It would allow you to shoot in more conditions with great quality, easier learning curve at a reasonable price. Macro definitely allows you to get a lot more "ooh wow" shots than a mid-range. The next step after macro w...

Re: Canon 5DMKIII Naudicam housing

Hi! I'm not too familiar with that camera or those lenses however they sound like they're mid-range lenses. Most photographers go quite a bit wider or more toward macro. If you're looking for specific advice on cameras and lenses see if you can get a hold of nirupam, he reviews and test a lot of cam...

Very cool. We just had some nice humpback and marine mammal action ourselves up on Vancouver Island, particularly at Port McNeill where everything gets funneled. We had humpbacks swim by several dive sites, unfortunately not observed underwater though. I need to get better about taking topside photo...

Amazing cephalopod encounter

I had the most bizarre and amazing encounter with a cephalopod this weekend at Salt Creek, WA! It turns out it was a 7-arm octopus, also known as a blob octopus. (The male looks like it has 7 arms because it tucks one in). These are a rarely-seen denizen of the deep, but at Salt Creek she was in jus...

Re: Dive shop recommendations to service lots of hear

Welcome back Archis! You might find that helium prices have gone up quite a bit since you were last out. Most trimix divers are using rebreathers these days. Most technical divers tend to dive with 8 diving co in Des Moines these days. I'm sure a few other shops may offer helium though, especially b...
