Re: Mystery tanks
I don't think its been repainted. I had a yellow LP 95 for awhile that was just like it. all it said was GALV and the Diamond symbol.

Re: Mystery tanks
BTW, You needs to take that blue one back to the Hydro shop and get them the retest it with a + mark or else it's only supposed to be filled to 2400 instead of 2640.

Re: Mystery tanks
The silver one is a Steel 72CF 2250psi. I would guess the blue is a LP 80 probably a Faber.
On the blue one the diamond symbol designates the manufacturer. I have the list at my shop but not at home. If nobody answers it for you I'll get it tomorrow. GALV means that tank is GALVANIZED!

Sofnolime because Sea Pearls is the only source I have and with just 2 CCR units here, a pallet isn't practical. My experience with the Grace stuff is same as Cameron's it's pretty dusty compared to Sofnolime.

Re: What else do you do?
We'll lets see, Diving is pretty much my life. If I'm not diving for fun, I'm running the shop or teaching. Besides that, I work in Procurement for the State of Alaska. Other hobbies: - DSLR Photography - I suck at it but I'm learning. - Boating with my family, our boat isn't huge but we can cram ou...

Re: Pockets?
Gluing pockets on is no big deal, Its about a 30-45 minute job and doesn't require much as far as tools. Get the pocket, put on your suit and figure out where you want it. Use some white chalk to mark around it. Take the suit off, clean the area where the pocket will go and the back of the pocket wi...

Re: My New Dive Buddy
Whoo Hoo! Buy him a Weezle! Oh trust me, this kid will be decked out! We are already looking at options, The Medium suit he was wearing fits him OK but the feet are just about too small. So a new suit will be high on the list. He's a wreckdiver at heart. Just needs a few more dives then I'll get hi...

My New Dive Buddy
Took my 12 year old son out for his first local dive today. We were planning on him starting around here this summer. Last night we had a class in the pool and I had him doing drysuit work. He did great and was jazzed so he asked if we could dive today. The dive was short, 12 minutes 25 feet, he got...

Re: PERSPECTIVE
Tom, I'm learning too, I don't even shoot underwater just above; but I'm loving the DSLR world. The thing I've learned is don't be afraid to play with the settings and shoot over and over, disk space is cheap and the delete button works great! Also learn to read the histogram, that will in some case...

Re: PERSPECTIVE
Tom, Nice shots but they seem a little underexposed - Maybe you were going for that I don't know. Did you shoot them in RAW? If so bump the exposure a little and see how they look. The 2nd to last one is my favorite. Rule of thirds - Very important, I've mentioned it several times on this board- Her...

Re: Calculate tank volume?
As far as tanks gone bad- Steel - Rarely any problems even when rusty they tumble out and usually come out fine. The instance of steel tanks exploding around the world is very low and those that have were generally badly neglected. I just had 4 tanks come in the other day, ancient old st72's they ha...

Re: How many tanks is too many?
I've got something like 100 tanks floating around. The ones I call mine I suppose are 4 -ST100s 4-ST80's Currently 2 of the 80's are doubled. In the past the 100's were doubled depending on need. 1-set double 95's Mostly for friends 2 ST 23's primary rebreather bottles 8 AL19's other Rebreather bott...

Re: Apeks regs
We sell and service both and my service tech (AKA my wife) says that Apeks are much easier to service than Scubapro and she's been doing Servicing Scubapro for over 10 years. I'm currently switching all my Scubapro for Apeks for the time being, just to use something else that I sell. I've had all Sc...

Re: Continous Web or Shoulder clips?
Not sure if someone mentioned this already or not, and I've never done it myself but it sounds like a great compromise. Just make the webbing longer on one side, but still continuous, then run a buckle that's on the continuous webbing so that it clips under your arm (close to the BP). That way, you...

Every situation is going to be different so this is hard to answer. I appreciate where you are Mentally and emotionally after this incident and thinking it through and talking about it helps and who knows you might come up with something. I wasn't at Jake's incident so I don't know what would have h...

Re: Needing a CCR fix
Good post, I agree that it is a leap of faith though I disagree on the eccr vs. mccr thing. It's not the issue it's made out to be. Gillenvy can probably speak to that (he's had both) but there are some folks doing some serious stuff on mccr. Remembering to periodically push a button isn't the big d...

Re: Needing a CCR fix
Okay, why back versus OTS counterlungs? I assume work of breathing and trim are two of the issues--but what are the specifics? Work of breathing is the big one but position in the water helps that out. The rEvo is supposed to have really good WOB for BMCL. FMCL's generally have better WOB. On the K...

There are plenty of folks here who know more about the caves and cenote's than I do so I'll leave that to them. If you want some basic openwater dives go with Akumal Dive Adventures on Half Moon Bay, It's right next to La Buena Vida (a restaurant). We had a real good time with those guys and they us...

scuba pro(?) claims that if you remove them, the exposed hose fittings will help with heat transfer to keep the first stage from freezing up and free flowing mine are removed from my cold water regs. This is fact but the one they removed is on the 2nd stage not the 1st. And it's really a factor up ...

Re: Hose Protectors
They will extend the life of hoses. I currently own 25 regulator sets. I can attest that hose protectors do work. New hoses have more rigidity but over time they start to sag and then the crimp fitting will start to eat into the jacket of the hose. Having a hose protector will definitely extend the ...
