The government can only do so much to protect you... That "this device will kill you with out warning" Label on my rebreather usually keeps me on my toes. The CE standard is tuff, I know that there are units being tested for a CE mark. I think the SDS units and the Meg are all being tested...

I run 1.2-1.3 pretty much all the time. As far as voting logice goes. Most MCCR divers that I know (Copis or Kiss) are running the Shearwater computer. The Shearwater calculates Deco (VPM) based on the Average PO2 between the 3 sensors and if it doesn't like what it sees among the sensors, it will v...

What's hard is it sounds like people are talking Fords and Chevys... "Mine is the best, yours is a POS." From everything I've read, it seems most deaths that come from CCR are due to poor care for the unit. Then again, it's scary shit. At this point, I'm still ignornant but VERY intereste...

It took me one dive with someone on a RB to makeup my mind. Prior to that I had the "right gear for the mission" mindset. It didn't take me long to dump that mindset and move on. The rebreather has numerous advantages over OC. Some include: It's warmer It's moist it's quiet I can hear OC d...

Math .. Err that gives me a headache..... Did I mention that I can start an hour dive with only a 1000 psi in a 19'?? and still have gas left over! Economically you guys will always be money ahead to look at a rebreather. Not to mention breathing warm moist gas in January..... I figure It cost me le...

Aluminum 19's one with Air and one with O2 and I'm good for up to 5 hours. \:D/ DM Honestly, you can keep strapping bigger and bigger tanks on but then you run into Deco being your limiting factor. I ran a Steel 120 to 135' a couple weeks ago while dragging big cable suspended from a crane on a barg...

Dirty Jobs - Dave should call them when he cleans a boat bottom and comes home covered in worms. The sites while not exactly eco-friendly are fully permitted and monitored by the State and Feds - Not that that means much. Alot of this gets spread around in the tides and dispersed as well. It's not u...

Actually, it's all about as closely regulated as is possible. All industrial sites in Alaska are regulated like you wouldn't believe. I guess we're learning from your mistakes. We have a huge gold mine trying to open in Juneau and they've been to the 9th circuit and may go to the Supreme Court over ...

what a waste What else are they going to do with it? It's bones and the junk parts after processing the fish. The problem is that it's not really supposed to pile up on the bottom. Most of the plants that I've done surveys for have very little discharge. This one must have some issues eh Dave? Is t...

If it's comfortable it's probably too loose. If you're turning red it's too tight.

Trim it if you need to you have no choice.

I assume it's latex.

Your son's 80....

I've still got that set of Faber Double 95's and Faber double 100's and 2 immaculate 80's that I picked up recently that's about it. Well that's what I say, my wife is sick of tripping over the other 6 sets of doubles that I have and the 85 other singles.

That's interesting that on a barge the valves can be left in place... I think I'd want them removed and the tanks plugged. The barge is like a container ship. There is no need to take the tanks apart just ship them. When I went down to take my tech nitrox and deco Instructor class from Mel, I shipp...

It's a short road!! You don't drive to SE Alaska you fly or ferry.

To deliver to Dave the best way would be to drop them at the bargelines on W Marginal Way. About a week later they arrive in Sitka.

From someone who rents dry suits exclusively, here are my thoughts; First, I suggest that you rethink your sizing. I currently have the following: Women’s: ML, L, XL (1 of each) Men’s: M (1), L (2), XL (2), XXL (1) As I’m sure you know, women aren’t he same shape as men and putting a women in a man’...

Re: Where are the deals?

I'd like at least one more tank and thought that another AL80 in the 125 dollar price range would be nice. I've seen them for 180. May as well buy a steel LP and I might. Anybody see any deals out there? AL80, steels, used? Dave Unless you buy in huge quantites like some of the discount stores, whi...

Re: Other reasons for DIR issues

There's another anti-DIR issue out there that doesn't get discussed regularly: DIR is tough on SCUBA dive shops. Ryan Your right to a point. Shops are having to change business models no doubt. but keep in mind, When I jump for an O/C Trimix dive, I have 5 or 6 regulators, and a whole bunch of othe...

Nope, Don't intend to ever get it either, for me I don't see any value in it what-so-ever. Besides, I don't recall GUE having a CCR rebreather DIR course and since I'm moving all my "fun" diving to rebreather what's the use.

If those tanks are all you dive why bother? You're looking at about $75 to convert a MK25 and if you have no pressing need that's not money well spent. If you are thinking tech sometime down the road then you can convert or if you endup with some DIN tanks but I don't see any reason to just do it to...
