Be careful diving with Mel.... She has these piercing eyes that will imprint into your brain. Then everytime you look at Advanced Diver Magazine all you see are those eyes.... Later you wake up chanting CCR CCR CCR ..... Seriously, Mel and Curt are great to dive with I can't wait to get back down th...

Anybody else just killing time?
Days like today should just be holidays. The office is empty and everyone is just killing time. Should have stayed in bed.
The only good thing is I'm diving tonight so something to look forward to!

So I don't agree that instructors are basically diving solo.. At least not the instruction I have been witness too. Food for thought, Who does buddy checks for the instructor? I generally take care of myself and nobody looks at my gear, hoses, valves, etc. They just expect me to be ready to get in ...

As far as the instructor diving solo, it's true from my perspective. Unless I bring a buddy along on every dive just to watch my back, who do I have? Not just BOW, any course. But, if I bring a buddy along to watch me, who's watching them? I'm busy watching students, I can't be depended on to watch ...

I'll hopefully be coming down in March or April to do a CCR course with Mel. I was down in November and did a Adv nitrox/Deco instructor course and had a blast! I'm personally going with the Classic Kiss. When you look at the options, it's not all that more expensive than the Sport and is a much bet...

Re: Intro and Dive Bio
Just an introduction- Presently I dive open-circuit, but I'm strongly considering going the rebreather route, ...... taking the TDI Deco and SSI Divecon in 2007. Thanks, --Celeus Welcome If you are serious about the rebreather, Drop a note to Mel Clark - "Scubagrunt" on this board and dis...

In regards to the breathing argon issue. Obvisouly if you breathe 100% argon you are in trouble. However, Argon is an inert gas just like Helium. If I'm not mistaken, it would have better properties than Helium in trimix but for on thing, it's extremely narcotic so you would be so narc'd or should I...

Amy, I think big tanks are popular for a few reasons: 1. heavy consumption rates = shorter dives This can be related to physical size, comfort in the water, being cold, over weighting, physicla fitness, etc. 2. We all want longer dives. Face it, we spend thousands on gear, it stinks to drive all the...

Its a bi-lam suit that doesn't seperate in the high stress areas like under the arms and the crotch areas. Made me think about buying one. its also available with a quick release pocket system so you can change from a small to large size to suit the dive. I haven't seen this suit in person so I can...

Re: High Pressure versus Low Pressure
Besides size and weight why would I want one or the other. Some dive shops will not fill a tank over 3000psi, regardless of its markings. Some stores limit because they don't want to stress their compressor above 3000, and some stores due it out of ignorance (or because they don't want to try and g...

Which compressor did you get? We have the 9 cfm with the membrane from those guys. I love the membrane it makes filling nitrox a breeze. the downside is that I don't have a second low pressure compressor to feed the membrane and it's a hungry booger. Somewhere in the vicinity of 22CFM at 150 PSI to ...

Ok, I'm in, Dave here, I've been diving in Alaska since 1988 I was 17 when I took my OW course. - So that's 18 years (I'm 35). I learned to dive after my dad came home an announced that he had signed up the whole family. My dad loved it so much that in spring of 89 they bought the LDS. I've been inv...
