is day island a boat dive..? or a shore dive.... Yes. The charters run boat trips to it, and it's also divable from shore. The issues with shore diving are: 1. Current. Dives must be timed to catch the slack. 2. Neighbors. The entry is in the midst of a small residential area, so it's imperative to...

They "really enjoyed seeing the dvd and can now appreciate why divers like to go to the wall when able (sounds like Grateful Diver gave them a dvd with his pictures - nice going!)." Actually, Cwest recently gave the local Day Island residents a number of copies of a DVD he made. It's a co...

Thanks for posting the strobe info guys. I just returned from Cozumel (my first warm water diving), and now I'm seriously considering getting a camera. Rich, your Coz trip report was right on the money. To me it seemed like swimming in a tropical aquarium. The quantity, variety and color of life was...

Having not seen the housing, I have a question. Is it a big deal to use the built in flash for a while and purchase a strobe later? I mean, is it easy to add/hook up the strobe? Maybe even take it on and off depending on the need? I envision some travel, involving bright clear water, not requiring ...

Well, here's the general location of those sites: - Lobster Shop Wall is out from the Lobster Shop restaurant on Ruston Way. Park in first lot west of the restaurant. Get in the water at the small stretch of beach there. - Day Island is in Tacoma, about a mile south of the Narrows Bridge. Easily fin...

Ended up doing two dives at Day Island today. Saw about a dozen wolf eels (including three pairs on eggs), one big GPO and a smaller one, multiple kelp greenling that seemed to be staking out territory, and the usual variety of other stuff. Vis was probably 15-18 feet or so. Had perfect slack water ...

Day Island tomorrow, 1/29

Anyone interested in hitting Day Island tomorrow morning? Need to splash by about 0800-0815. It'll be a real nice slack, should be a great dive.

Let me know.

I wear a Weezle Compact under my 6mm neoprene drysuit. Sometimes I still get cold, but it's better than the long underwear I used before. As others have noted, it works even when wet.

Vis topped out at about 10'-15' at Day Island this morning, so not too bad all things considered. Saw a couple big GPO's, one red octo, a few wolfies, kelp greenling, and the usual small stuff. Real nice slack current dive, and hardly anyone there.

Then just go with HP-130's, if you're okay with the cost. I own LP-95's and HP-130's. I like them both, although the 130's are noticeably heavier. I've never had a problem getting good fills (including nitrox) on either.

Bassman - Yep, Sunrise is a hike, but I think it's worth it, especially on a nice slack tide, with all the GPO's, wolfies, and smaller critters, and all the color down there...just a great dive site.

Thanks for the welcome!

And if you're not too bored with your local diving, I wouldn't mind coming up there and hitting the Lake Crescent or Port Ang...

Hi from Port Orchard

I've been a lurker on this board for while now. My usual dive buddy seems to be less available lately, so I thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself in hopes of finding more folks to dive with. My dive bio: Qualified OW, AOW, Nitrox, and Advanced Nitrox. I've been diving about a year, and have a li...
