Re: Remote Instruction

I am a PADI instructor and teach for a PADI shop (Evergreen Dive Service in Everett). We currently do most of our classroom sessions via Zoom because of the pandemic. For the dry suit specialty you have your choice of elearning and a short Zoom meeting or the printed manual and a longer (2 hr) Zoom ...

Re: Drygoves source

For future reference I get a glove that looks a lot like that at Seattle Marine and Fishing Supply (https://www.seamar.com/products) near fisherman’s terminal in Magnolia. They have a big selection but I usually buy Merigold brand. The cost was about $22 a dozen last time I purchased some. I like th...

Re: Large display wrist computers?

Maybe some of you can enlighten me on this topic. I frequently see this question asked but I never see what is, to me, the simplest answer, which is get corrective lenses. About 30 years ago I went to my optometrist asking about contacts for diving. His answer was, if you've never worn contacts get ...

Re: Tried Kayak diving? Got any tips?

Janna, Usually I just tow it. I use a wreck reel which gives me lots of low drag line. Given the the kayak is also low drag the combination makes a very easy to tow dive flag. If I drop the reel it rarely moves while I take a photo or some such. If I think I might want to anchor it I carry a light d...

Re: Lost UWATEC smart pro dive computer

A final follow-up on that lost computer that Magoi found for me. When I got to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea with my recently returned backup computer I met a very nice, very sad lady who had a very dead computer. Thanks to the fact that my computer had been found and returned to me she was able ...

Best checkout dive ever

Typical checkout dive on the Star Dancer in Papua New Guinea. Sand, 35 feet and a few rocks. Then these guys showed up.

Re: Lost UWATEC smart pro dive computer

No Deco obligation was incurred. Tthe max depth was 15 feet at high tide but at low tide is was only 6 feet. Addidtionaly the computer was set for 32% Nitrox which gives an EAD of 4 feet at 15 feet (high tide) and an EAD of negative 3 feet at 6 feet (low tide). Love that Nitrox.

Re: Lost UWATEC smart pro dive computer

The errant dive computer is back none the worse for wear. I would like to thank Magoi for finding it and getting it back to me. I would also like to thank the whole dive club for their efforts. For the record, the computer made a 6140 minute (4 days, 6 hours and 20 minutes) solo dive to a maximum de...

Re: Artificial Reefs and the DNR

As someone who has followed this debate for years and seen absolutely no change I would suggest that DNR is never going to allow anyone to sink a ship in Washington waters. Their focus is entirely on supporting the consumption based community and they have no interest in protecting the environment e...

Re: Lost UWATEC smart pro dive computer

Yes a big thanks to Magoi. I doubted that the computer would ever be seen again but I never doubted that if a diver found it I would get it back. It is great to belong to to the diving community. Where else can you find people you would actually trust with your life?
