Re: On spearfishing....

Last Spearfishing SEASON...we were forced to cancel a spearfishing event, designed to EDUCATE newbie spearo's on responsible harvesting of fish. We had a boat chartered and a contest designed with large prizes from manufacturers in the industry. The threatening emails came from many sources...the &q...

Free Discover Scuba, Feb 5th

Re: December Padi Sport Diver Mag

Wow...that was quick...

From Barb, "I don't know where Sport Diver got the picture. It is my text, but not sure who took the photo."

So, chances are she didn't write the photo text...probably editorial staff.

Sorry.

Barb usually does all of her own photography...let me shoot her an email and see what I can come up with. It may mean "a diver who belongs to A northwest dive club"...not necessarily THIS nwdiveclub.

Re: Full Face and Radio

Interesting discussion. I've been on the topside end when demo'ing a set for a commercial outfit to buy in a pool...couldn't understand a thing. But when I recently dove the Mark 5...from 1944...the com unit on the inside was crystal clear. Of course, it's "wired"...but you would think we ...

Latest Issue of XRay Magazine is OUT!!

Just wanted to give a plug for the latest issue of XRay Magazine. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's an online magazine viewable in PDF format based out of Copenhagen. I'm a staff editor for the magazine, and Barb Roy is a contributor, as well. In the latest issue, Laura James takes me f...

Free travel ops in exchange for video

I've posted in the video section a few months ago looking for photographers and videographers for upcoming articles for a few dive publications I affiliate with. However, while the photographers came...there doesn't appear to be any videographers who are either using this site...or perusing that col...

Where's the Trash?

I'm looking for garbage. Underwater garbage. Ocean Conservancy's Clean Up day is Sept. 20, and I'd like to organize a clean up dive in the Sound. I'm teaching alot, so I don't get a chance to go to all of the sites in the area, but when thinking about what site needs to be cleaned...I'm at a loss. T...

Scuba Instructor charged with Homicide

Just saw this...the implications are a bit scary. Without knowing EVERYTHING (like was the instructor in the pool...or in the shower room??) I have to say that being an instructor just got tougher. http://www.divemaster.com:80/diving-news/scuba-instructor-charged-with-murder_28723.html For a student...

I'm looking forward to chartering the Dash on Saturday...and encourage all the other NWDiveClub members to make an effort to do at least one day on the Dash in the upcoming few months. While Mike has a really cool big boat...it also comes with really cool big payments. This is one of those occasions...

Re: Viz around the Sound

Today's dive was at Redondo again...and the viz was a bit better. I think 3 1/2 feet in the shallows! So...I'm registering 50 degrees pretty constantly in my OW classes for the past two weeks, in the shallows...and at depth I'm getting 46 - 47. Could it be that my computer is allowing me my wish of ...

Viz around the Sound

Well, it's the end of May...so thought I'd start this thread. My reports... Redondo yesterday was 2' for first 10 feet. I had two students...so that's as far as we got...and I called the dive. Alki today...about 9 inches of viz for first 15 feet, then opens up and you'll be up to about 10' of viz. H...

GET YOUR FRIENDS to try Scuba for Free

This upcoming weekend at the NW Dive Expo happening at the Tacoma Convention Center, we will be having FREE Discover Scuba Experiences in a 5,000 gallon pool. Re: Friday Night Experience Dives

Once again...just a reminder that we'll be having the Friday night dive at Redondo from 5 until dusk. We're expecting at least 4 newer divers this week...so it's growing. Last week, we had one...but she got to see the octopus and become more comfortable doing an ascent in her drysuit. I'm really exc...

That's exciting for me to hear that Andrew teaches that way. That's the way I was trained (non-GUE) and I've always taught. So, to hear that he teaches it...well, that's cool, as I have huge respect for him. Recently I had my neck seal replaced and the one I have now is a bit too big. Thought it wou...

Re: Drysuit training

Fishman... Definitely schedule something with your instructor. It will not only be safer, but will also lessen the time for you to get comfortable in the suit. We not only teach you how to dive the suit...but also how to care for the suit. Learning how to move the air around in your suit, not to get...

Welcome to the NW!!!

I lived in the Springs for about 5 years until I remembered I was decided to take up mermaid training and move back to the NW. You'll find more life here than in the reservoirs...but the trips to Cozumel get a bit more pricey here... :)

Again...welcome!

So, you include a certification as part of the drysuit package...? The one student was diving a Whites Fusion...and I thought she had purchased it there. Would you do a certification for her...as she's really not happy with the experience she's had with this suit so far. Will you do a pool session w...

Friday Night Experience Dives

We've been talking with alot of newer divers who want a place to work on skills under supervision...not a full blown class where they are learning new skills...but somewhere they can just go for an easy dive, get a bit of instruction (free...is that really a word anymore) and improve their diving.
