Re: how i met my first (dive buddy)
I was blessed. I took Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Peak Buoyancy and...then didn't have a buddy. I really, really wanted to be an instructor, so in order to do that, you need to dive, right? Enter Valerie and Jackie. My first "non-class" dive was with Valerie and Jackie when they taugh...

Re: Astoria SCUBA
That's what I thought as well...but in talking to Floyd...he said there is really NO diving in the area, as the visibility is 2'-3' on a good day.
If anyone finds wrecks or dives in the area though....I'd love to bring divers down to play. En masse...

I've been there!! Definitey worth stopping in for a look and a chat with Floyd while you're there. The coffee at Coffee Girl is some of the best on the North Coast, and of course, Rogue Public Ale House has great food and drinks. I haven't had Floyd fill my tanks, but I'll put money on him topping t...

Re: intro to dive question
Look...just to avoid anything...I've got two Discover Scuba's scheduled for this month. I'd be happy to offer it for free rather than have any weird incident happen. It's not that you're not "smart" enough...teaching scuba isn't rocket science...but for safety's sake and for him to have th...

The only thing good about tweakers is their ability to provide such entertainment...now if they would just return my old yard lights they decided needed to be recycled!!!

Re: Diver finds live grenade in Puget Sound...yikes!
And once again...I'm looking through my Open Water training materials and this one isn't covered. Crap.
Should I include "don't touch possible live ammunition underwater" in my Open Water classes...or do you think this is more of an Advanced skill?
Scary...

Ah...there are some things a girl can get away with saying, eh? A guy talks about slapping some tail...and he's seen as a pig.
It's good to be a girl!

Re: Cabezon Hunters
Hey...I've CAUGHT one with my hands... Ok, a net. My DM held the net while I slapped the tail and into the net my little Cabbie friend went. He now lives (not as happily) at the MaST Aquarium. Funny...I can't seem to hit a thing when I'm shooting at it, but I can net the creatures...what's up with t...

For the record, GirlDiver is an excellent example of someone that encourages cooperation among different organizations. Why so combative? So that YOU'RE customers only buy from YOU. Right? And so YOU can be with the Biggest, Baddest Shop on the block. Before I did diving, I did quilting. (yes...I USED to have a domestic side...). We had a "Quilt Stop and Shop" event every year in which quilters got a "...

For those of you who are new to the board...most of the members posting on this particular thread have been in or very near to an incident. There is not now....nor has there ever been...bashing aimed towards a rescuer, victim or anything else. That's NOT this board. That said, when a witness gives t...

At low tide...on a huge exchange day...in the middle of algae bloom...40'?
I'm not a skeptic...I'm calling b.s.
I've never cancelled classes due to 40' of visibility...I cancelled on Saturday due to having 5' of visibility.

Re: Water Visibility During Open Water Classes
As a new student, I wouldn't have known the danger...but I would have been a bit unnerved...and not enjoyed the experience. (I didn't like diving when I HAD visibility...certainly wouldn't have continued on if I couldn't have seen my instructor underwater) As an instructor, this year I have cancelle...

Re: Hyperbaric Chamber Tour
This will be the last hyperbaric chamber tour we put together this year...due to lack of interest. The Chamber was nice enough to offer to open up their area, however, we don't want to take their time for tours of two or three people. If you don't have plans today and wish to join us...there's LOTS ...

I think that the color coordination between the gloves and the suit will speak volumes. Every scrapbooking girl from here to the border will be all over a color coordinated diver! Makes the photo pages easier to put together!!

Re: Hyperbaric Chamber Tour
Thanks Peter... Last time the tour booked quickly. This time...we appear to have no takers. We'll go ahead and hold the tour open for a week, however, if we don't have a minimum number of divers interested, we'll try it again later in the year possibly. Perhaps the only 25 divers in the area interes...

Viz at Redondo this early evening (think sun in sky still...) was a night dive. 3-4 ft of visibility...ugh. Will make for an interesting weekend.
