The grip plate logo certainly IDs it as an FN Browning... Great find!

Glad you had a good dive. My only experience there was more like shooting the rapids between the pillars in my kayak...

Re: Hypothetical Question (sorta): What do you do if you find a firearm while diving?
Well, your last couple of sentences are certainly valid... If it was me (which it wouldn't be since I don't dive now <sad face>), I would make note of the location as closely as possible, take some photos if you have a camera, and then try to safe it. If it's old and corroded and things aren't movin...

Very sad to see it dead, for sure.
Very surprised to see it anywhere in the Sound, let alone all the way down by Shelton! Never heard of one in here...

Re: Exploded 50cal
Probably split the chamber and burst the breech end of the barrel... Someone could've picked it out of the wreckage or it may have 'escaped' on its own if the whole thing blew apart...

Re: Exploded 50cal
My guess is that this damage pattern would also have required damage to the gun itself. If the firing chamber remained intact, the brass casing would not have had any place to blow out like that.

Re: Divers face long-term health impact from COVID-19
From what I have seen, the experts are among the people discovering these earlier cases. They are learning about this particular virus right along with everyone else. They were basing their thoughts and theories based on what they knew at the time, and have been revising them all the time as new dat...

Cool finds! The local bottle especially. One of the local drug stores or pharmacies might even be willing to barter supplies for it (bet you might even be able to get a whole roll of TP if you bargain hard)

Hey, one more note on the antique ammo. Despite having spent a long time under the salt, those cartridges are in quite good condition. It’s possible that the primers and necks have remained sealed, given that they were lacquered for water tightness. Old explosives and propellants can become unstable...

Hey, 60South! I love what a bored and knowledgeable group mind can do when it comes to finding info!!! No idea *when* they were submerged, but they are identified now. So, in the Pentax photography forum where I spend/waste a lot of time, I posted pics of your ammo. For the headstamps, I converted i...

Perhaps it’s off a British or Canuckian vessel and the stripper clip is .303 Lee-Enfield. Can one of the rounds be removed from the clip so you can look for the head stamp?

The last time I took my kayak out from Chambers Creek there was a very healthy and extensive ell grass bed in from of the creek mouth, both to the north and south. Shore access would probably be from the Steilacoom city park, but I'd verify first...

Re: Maui shore dive, all the turtles!
I am here on Maui right now, doing shore snorkeling while the wife does her conference stuff. Have seen a few turtles, a fair number of fish, ate some sand thanks to a couple of larger than expected waves... This is quite an island.
