Thanks for the info everyone... Sparky, I am going to contact the King County Sheriff and my local Kirkland PD. The county has a dive unit web page, but lists no volunteer opportunities. The PD web site doesn't mention divers, I bet they get that service from the county, but I'm checking anyway. Jen...

I think it is when you carry someone's gear for them, and provide tasty beverages in between dives. If you would like to experience it first hand I'm sure we can arrange something. :)

When my non-diver friend comes along I call him the Dive Sherpa.

He prefers "shore buddy."

Diving volunteer opportunities?

In another thread (http://www.nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=2475) a member mentioned that he is a volunteer diver for his local sheriffs dept. in OR. Are there any similar opportunities around the Seattle area? If so what level of training is needed? I'd be happy diving in 10 feet of water for lost...

What's the training for "limited visibility diving?"

Nope, that wasn't me... the only folks I talked to today were Bill and Roger. We were in the boat parking lot by Bill's pickup.

Thanks to Bill, Roger, and the sunfish for a good dive

We had a great dive this afternoon at Redondo, the highlight being (IMHO) seeing a juvenile mola mola. This was at about 30 fsw, near the bigger of Redondo's two sunken boats. He was pretty fearless... I think I heard other divers saying he was following them like a puppy. I would estimate him at ab...

Dive buddy calendar at Google. Useful? Let's see

Slow day at work... I set up a public "find a dive buddy" calendar at Google. It leaves something to be desired, but... Well, it's free. And a slow day at work. (I know this comes up a lot, but maybe this time it will be different...?) The basic idea is this: if you are doing something and...

Nudi ID? They all look the same in this darn book! (pic)

Seen today at Cove 2 in 45-60 fsw, if memory serves. Approx 2" long. Some kind of flabellina?

Thanks for the help!

Great dive today! Penelope found us an octo in the pilings at Cove 2. My first sighting, pretty neat.

2 new pictures in my Cove 2 gallery--nothing too exciting but I need to get an ID on that nudi.

Lynne (LCF) let me borrow her husband's DSS backplate/wing setup which is how I decided to kick my Ranger BCD to the curb. :)

(Heh, you could always make a backplate out of an old stop sign, isn't that how Irvine and JJ got started?)

John was shore-buddy (sherpa?) for Penelope and I when we went to Harper's Ferry a while back.

I have known John for... 15 years? And I have never seen him on a message board. He was an old coot when he was still young.

This is a truly shocking day for me.

Looking for a buddy, Sunday 4/22

If anyone needs a buddy (and is tolerant of newbies) I'm hoping to dive on Sunday. Redondo, Cove 2, wherever, I'm not particular... though I'm a bit of an air hog and prefer to stay shallow.

I'm the newbie that Calvin and Ken got stuck with. Many thanks for letting me tag along at the last minute. In trim and air consumption it was my best dive so far... SAC was 0.6, though I still have a ways to go since it came with a free headache. (And thanks to Lynne for bringing Peter's DSS rig fo...

Well, we did Redondo. Nice site, plenty to see on a return trip. Vis was 15-20 ft. Temp was 48-46F. The trip was uneventful, though we got a little disoriented on the steep slope and ended up touching 84 ft. It was really easy to overshoot 60 ft, I'll have to be more careful next time. (We were foll...
