Re: Been dry for a long time, need gear serviced. Where to go?

Went to Eight today. What a nice place! They had some righteous gear and the staff was very friendly.

Re: Been dry for a long time, need gear serviced. Where to go?

If I do buy replacements, that is an option! I have to decide where to draw the line on hobbies that require fiddly tools and parts stashes though... I already have several!

Re: Been dry for a long time, need gear serviced. Where to go?

If I have to. The Dive Rites not being servicable locally is a pain, but they are good regs that haven't given us any problems. The devil you know, right?

Re: Been dry for a long time, need gear serviced. Where to go?

Well bad news, good news... Bad news: Don doesn't do Dive Rite any more. He says there are few users around here nowadays, and so parts are hard to get. Good news: Don is super nice , we chatted for 15 minutes, and he's going to call a couple people to see if anyone he knows still does them. He is c...

Thanks Calvin!

I'll send the regs to Don for sure and pick one of 8 Diving or UWS for the suits. UWS is closer but it might be nice to check out a new shop too!

Thanks guys. The regs are Dive Rite, the suits are Pinnacle and a Whites Fusion--not exactly new, but the newer kind which does have replaceable seals.

Been dry for a long time, need gear serviced. Where to go?

Hi guys, Embarrassing how long it has been since we got wet, and I need to get our gear serviced. That includes some suit seals. I am on the east side but will go wherever for the best service. I would appreciate recommendations--I am currently not just out of the loop, but so far from the loop that...

Scuba is not my most expensive hobby but that is only because I also collect pinball machines. :)

Been dry too long -- where to get gear serviced on the east side?

I am embarrassed to admit how long it has been since I have been wet, or even been here! Before I dare even get into a puddle to do drills, I need to get my gear serviced, though. Besides needing regulator maintenance, I also need to get some seals replaced on my suit. Cylinders need a vis for sure ...

Re: In Memoriam: Lynne Flaherty (LCF, TSandM)

Lynne continually impressed me with the way she mentored new divers, and that includes my one outing with her long ago. I am sure we have a lot more smart, safe divers out there thanks to her efforts. That's a good legacy for anyone. And seriously, have you ever met a nicer person, either in the fle...

Found a heavy-duty sewing gadget

I stumbled across an $18 tool which seems like it could handle sewing heavy nylon webbing, thought someone might be interested:

I could not edit the subject or delete the post--reduced to $100. If a mod comes by, can you delete this thread?

REDUCED: Bare 7mm Supra Farmer John wetsuit, women's L, $100

Jen used this Bare suit for about 20 dives before upgrading to a drysuit. It has been stored inside since, and is in excellent condition. I can't find a size chart, but she's 5' 9" and it fit her well.

Asking $100 now. We're in Woodinville. Come try it on!

Re: Fukushima theory gaining traction?

You couldn't cover up something like our West Coast getting blasted by radiation. There are countless people with the scientific training and equipment needed to show if that was happening. When a university, for example, shows results that other institutes can reproduce, then we have something to d...

I have seen a lot of comments about his certification status, which may or may not be pertinent. I don't think that anyone would argue that a certification is the only way to learn something. But the discussion needs to be around best practices. The very nuanced tap-dancing around how you may possi...

Re: Sea star die-off

A Solaster stimpsoni by itself in a separate tank (but on the same system) died from it, so it's apparently waterborne. If I had a university marine invert lab, I'd try keeping a specimen in water from the afflicted system--but I'd cook the water with a UV sterilizer first. If UV keeps the disease ...

Yeah, not thrilling.

Too bad Navimate looks like it'll never happen. That would be a heck of a cool gadget.

Re: Lighting Options for Camera (non video)

You can take some decent pics without an external strobe but it's a real challenge. You get fewer keepers and you also just can't take certain kinds of pictures. So, if you're committed to the idea of having a nice rig sooner or later, investing in a strobe is a good idea. I have only used Sea&S...

A scuba shop on NE 8th in Bellevue? I must have driven past it a thousand times. I had no idea this place existed. It's easier to get to than UWS Bellevue, I would have tried this place for fills if I knew about it.

Re: Craigslist deals

I decided to get the Whites deal, but Jen and I both need new thermals. We have one ebay fleece suit between us and a motley collection of other layers that only sort of work. She dives a Fusion, and doesn't have problems getting cold normally, so the Thermal Fusion will probably work well for her. ...
