This is getting old....it's almost 3 weeks now. All the Zicam in the world hasn't helped. My lungs and sinuses are STILL hosed up. :-({|= - John OK, this makes me feel better. Although I'm doing WAY better than I was a week ago, I'm on Day 11 of this thing, and STILL congested, and coughing up crud...

2007 REEF Survey/BBQ days schedule and more!

It's a great year to be a critterwatcher, with lots of fun coming up! 2007 Dive Days ------------------ We've once again started up a great schedule of Survey Dive Days with our famous potluck BBQ's, at dive sites all over Puget Sound, north to south (and Hood Canal). Mark 'em on your calendar and p...

Your first picture is a White Lined Dirona, also known as a Frosted Nudibranch. And your last one is called a Comb Jelly. They move by using those little tiny hair-like projections all over their bodies, called Cilia. You can treat yourself to a really cool light show by shining your dive light from...

Hey guys, don't want you to think I've forgotten you or whatever! I contacted REEF as soon as I heard this, but didn't have any luck. I called them again today about it, and finally tonight I got back this email from Christy Semmens: Just to let you know that I just found out that there is an outsta...

You might be fine!! My husband has yet to get it, in spite of me having it the past week and a half. (and he's not been on the couch, either!) There are also two others in our household who have had it, and yet our son has not gotten it either. So....just keep yourself healthy and unstressed, and ma...

Can we resize Jenn's very cool eagle photo? It's so large that it's skewed the format of the entire thread such that I have to scroll sideways to view people's messages.

I have put together a little photo essay of Life on pilings in Puget Sound and have posted it here: http://nwgeogirl.smugmug.com/gallery/2478639 Gathering up these photos this morning just emphasized to me how important these areas are as habitat for marine life. I have noticed that some pilings att...

I came down with it the day AFTER diving last week - so I got it on Friday. Today, a WEEK later, I am still horribly congested in my head, my chest is full of crud with the accompanying cough - and I get all 'achey' if I overdo at ALL. Last night I went to the dive shop to get my tanks filled, and w...

Hey Gilly! I've had various plastic covers for my dive computers over the years, and the trouble I've had with the ones that sit ABOVE my dive computer face, is that they get water droplets or foggy condensation on them topside so I can't read them. Drives me nuts. So, I found a VERY inexpensive sol...

John, we're in synch!

Glassy tunicate for sure! Definitely NOT an invasive tunicate. The little bumps on the body are your clues.

Also, what you're seeing inside of it is its digestive tract. That's normal!

Nice find!! I usually only see these up in Canada.

I agree with John - nice little Cockerell's dorid you have there! They usually aren't big. I've seen teeensy to medium sizes ones in Puget Sound. They're not common so it's a great sighting!

The Kelp Krawlers plan on doing this cleanup on possibly a quarterly basis - at least several times throughout the year. And, it appears as though there's a good chance they'll want other dive clubs to participate with them, so stay tuned! It was such a fun time, with divers getting really excited a...

Probably about $150-175 for a Dive Rite, Halcyon or Salvo reel with 400' of line. I've had really good luck with my Halcyon. Personally, I prefer the side handle to the traditional type. Less chances of fouling (notice I said less.....). Dave I know I'm ignorant, but what is the 'traditional' type?...

Is the handle that's visible on the REEF style ones a necessary component? Calvin, let me find out more info about how to use these before I bite on your ...

Come on, people, let's get REEL!!!

So after 7 years of diving I suddenly find myself in the market for a line and reel! I've been working on a project in Hood Canal doing some surveys where it would be MOST helpful to have one of these to guarantee we go out and back along the same transect. I borrowed a friend's reel last weekend, a...

Dive Clubs remove invasive tunicates from Sund Rock

Two northwest dive clubs have stepped forward volunteering their membership to help clean up the ever-spreading invasive tunicate, Ciona savignyi at a popular dive site in Hood Canal, Sund Rock. http://nwgeogirl.smugmug.com/photos/125875910-M.jpg The Kelp Krawlers of Olympia WA - president Amy Kurte...

Matt,

I bought two of these recently, and they both do the weird blue light thing!!!

So yours is not sick, I think it's normal!

I suspect it has to do with the temperature sensor - these lights work in a different way than the older eLED lights.

So no worries, it's a FEATURE not a BUG!
