Re: Shallow water snorkeling sites?
I just broke down a 200 gallonish 60"x20"x36" acrylic tank to make room for the new fiberglass system. You have plans for the 200g? :smt064 Sold it pretty quickly. I do have a 1" thick 35 gallon acrlic tank with a closed loop 1/10th HP chiller and mini fridge auto feeder plumbed...

Re: Marbled Snailfish (Liparis dennyi) found on Oregon Coast
I have some other snailfish right now such as a Ribbon Snailfish, Tidepool Snailfish, Lobefin Snailfish in holding tanks I'll see if I can get a side by side of them to compare the dorsal fins to these striped ones. Definetly not a showy snailfish, the fin structure isnt right and the pattern isnt u...

Marbled Snailfish (Liparis dennyi) found on Oregon Coast
From what I have read I thought these were only found as far south as Northern Washington/Puget Sound. But I found 4 of what look to be Marbled Snailfish along the Oregon Coast last weekend near Newport. Is this a first time sighting this far south? Here's the pictures of them. http://i246.photobuck...

Re: Shallow water snorkeling sites?
That's awesome to hear about the scallops. Care to divulge the location? Its in the rocks that are exposed during low tides just to the north of the main beach access parking lot in Oceanside. You can either go through the tunnel in the rock or wait until the tide is low enough and walk out around ...

Re: Shallow water snorkeling sites?
Thanks for all the ideas on places to check out :) Most recently I've gone to Seal Rock, and a little farther south to a place near Strawberry Hill outside of Florence. TONS of cool stuff to see going high speed low drag. No need for fins, or tanks, we do it in just the lowers of our 2 piece 7mm wet...

Sounds awesome. I'm curious to know where the spot at the mouth of the Columbia is. Also, I suspect your unidentified wolf eel-like fish is a Monkey-faced Prickleback. Here are some pics: http://www.stripersonline.com/t/683363/pole-fishing-new-trend-or-old-school#post_6373101 The spot he wanted to ...

Oceanside, Garibaldi, Tillamook Bay Snorkeling
So after taking a trip yesterday to Astoria to deliver a lobster tank I refurbished I got to go collecting and snorkeling all day :) Best part was that the couple that bought the tank from me were AWESOME! The guy is a Coast Guard Rescue Diver, and his wife is a biologist that works for NOAA. After ...

I had to look one up once that was a rather odd coloration and stumbled across this cool little ID chart of the known juvenile colorations of red rock crab.

Re: DIY thread
Just FYI you do not want to use acrylic pipe or tube which is commonly available clear. Its brittle and will crack easily. I read it as he's going to get some clear for a different project, and some Sched. 80 for the canister. I was originally going use clear PVC on my canister and my slurp gun sin...

Re: DIY thread
Thanks guys
I gotta go pick up some clear PVC pipe tomorrow for a slurp gun I'm building so I think I will grab some 2" or 3" schedule 80 pipe, a cap, and a test plug while I'm at the plumbing store and get started on the housing.
Anyone ever go this route with their canister?

Where are you guys getting the water tight canisters for housing the batteries in? I just finished my latest light and pressured tested it to 300 feet. Happy to say not a drop of water anywhere except on the outside. :taco: :taco: This light and one other (in black of course) are headed for advanced...

Re: Building a "dream" tank...
I don't know if this is of interest, but I have a juvenile GPO in one of my tanks that is roughly 7 months old based on size. I'm sure you can find one closer to you than I am, but if it doesn't sell in the next year I'll probably just donate it as a tax write off.

Re: Building a "dream" tank...
If you are thinking about doing a shrimp tank, candy stripe shrimp and their associated anemones would make for a very cool small display. Hey now, that WOULD be cool! :supz: Except I've never seen them...doesn't mean I couldn't find them though! I have seen several photos from divers here on the f...

Eugene. You should come down and do Clear Lake, Waldo, or any of the high mountain lakes, the vis is usually great. I grew up in Eugene :) I have a good friend who dives down there with his son, his name is Jeff Lewis. I would love to come dive the lakes sometime, I'm still getting gear together an...

Re: MY SUPER SCHWEEET CAN LIGHT BY THE H20DOCTOR!!!
From what I have seen so far the single hi wattage emitters don't give a very focused beam the multi emitters seem to focus better. I know this is contrary to common thinking but I think it has something to do with the size of the led chip it's self and trying to find a reflector that can focus it....

Re: MY SUPER SCHWEEET CAN LIGHT BY THE H20DOCTOR!!!
Are those 3watt Cree LEDs? I was looking into modding the UK1200 I just picked up for $10 into a high output LED setup. Any suggestions? I built a 50w LED spotlight that puts out PAR equivalent of a 250w metal halide for one of my coldwater aquariums. I was thinking about modifying the fixture to be...

What size fins you looking for? I have a dive knife I'd sell ya for $5 ... I'd give it away except it ain't mine, but the person who owned it would happily take $5 for it. Reply here, or drop me a PM ... if I can help ya out, I'd be happy to ... ... Bob (Grateful Diver) Thanks :) I shot you a PM.

Re: Shallow water snorkeling sites?
Thanks for the input guys :) The areas I will mostly be snorkeling, free diving, and diving are bays along the oregon coast really. Not extremely silty where we have been. Other than that it will be in coastal rocky areas on the pacific. Sund Rock sounds like it might be worth a trip up north, just ...

Re: New diver's, What gear are you looking for? - NHZ PLEASE
If anyone has some used fins they want to part with I'd love some. I cant decide what to buy because right now I am snorkeling, I'd like to start free diving , and this summer I am going to get my scuba training. Weights would be sweet if anyone has some to part with, especially if I want to do anyt...
