Re: Traveling with a back plate and wings
I've gone three times now and i just find it much easier to put the majority of my gear in a Pelican box along with whatever clothes i'm taking and check it in. I put my computer, regulators and camera in a carry on Pelican box. I've never had any issues with Alaska Airlines.

And Diver den how is the predator for user ease. how would you compare it to the iPhone of cells phone world. Does it have a lot of button sequences to toggle through to get to everything ? I guess I have to go back and say that I like my Liquivision products: The Xen and have used a Xeo and X1 for...

Re: Removing paint from galvanized
Sorry I didn't read your post completely. It’s A 3500 psi steel PST, original hydro 4/1990.
The green paint did look pretty good and the Nitrox label good on it too, but like I said, I’m anal, and wanted it to match my other tanks.

Yes it’s a steel tank. I’m anal; the green didn’t match my other tanks.CaptnJack wrote:What kind of tank is that? The green actually looks pretty good.

Re: Removing paint from galvanized
I used a product called Loctite Chisel Paint Stripper that worked very well. I did a test spot before doing the whole tank with no adverse affects. The gasket/paint remover did a good job of loosening the paint and the pressure washer made short work of the rest.

Re: Removing paint from galvanized
The plan is a pressure washer. After I apply the stripper and let it sit a while, I’ll use the pressure washer at work to get the stubborn paint off. I did this originally without stripper but it only removed the loose paint. Once again, thanks for the advice.

Removing paint from galvanized
Does anybody know of a good way to take paint off of a galvanized tank surface? Any chemical that wouldn’t react with the coating?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: viz in the San Juans
I'm tired of this sux ass toilet bowl water around here. Is the viz better up in the San Juans? not usually unless you're on haro strait. try neah, seiku, salt creek or lake crescent We did Salt Creek last Saturday and i would say we had 20'-25' visibility at 35'. The Krill were thick around 10'-15...

Re: Hello from Portland
Hello and welcome! There are a lot of good times and great things to see diving the cold waters in the Pacific Northwest. Have you heard of the Oregon Scuba Club yet? There are about 180 members in and around the area; we have club dives once a month ranging from the Strait of Juan de Fuca in Washin...

Re: What did you pick up on your last dive?
Last dive was at Les Davis. I picked up a bit of trash from the parking lot, nothing from the water. I’ll be on the Oregon coast this weekend; I’ll see what I can find.

Re: Looking for Golf Ball diver/s in Portland area..
Buy cheap drysuit... thats what I'd do... and a cheap "face" suit. Also glue your mask to your face, so's to not get any leaks. Ugh to dive in a stagnant pond, full of pesticides, bacteria and whatever, not diluted by moving water. Maybe I'd do it for about 100.00 a ball. Are you sure you...

Re: Chest Strap & Inflator Valve Issues
I've always dove with a chest strap, same as any climbing/mc riding backpack I own has one. I've always found them more secured to my body, and give me greater flexibility in the shoulders. They just get/keep those straps off of the front of my shoulders. My BP has a chest strap, and I wont persona...

Re: Aquaintances at the show
Wandering around during the show I saw lots of people I knew and made a few new friends. While at the marker buoys booth I met a woman??????? asking about dive buddy's and how to get acquainted with some so I told her about NWDC as a good place to start. At first I didn't think to much about it but...

Re: Chest Strap & Inflator Valve Issues
Has anybody ever experienced this and if so, what did you do about it? Thank you. I did. Dove the same BC and even dive a Bare Drysuit. As far as what I did about it... Sold the BC, bought a BP/W without a chest strap and have not worried about it since. Probably not what you want to head, but you ...

Re: Looking for Golf Ball diver/s in Portland area..
Buy cheap drysuit... thats what I'd do... Hi Jeff, Yeah, a cheap suit- I don’t think you can get a bio-suit that covers from head to toe cheap, not even a used one. I found one though; it has data sensor points that limit your exposure to the toxic sludge in those ponds from “shite it’s eating its ...

Re: Chest Strap & Inflator Valve Issues
Sometimes you can just buckle on a sternup strap, no sewing required. They do frequently conflict with suit valves so maybe try a dive or 2 with it disconnected to see if you need the sternum strap at all. Some BCs don't need or have them at all, some have them but don't really need them, some requ...

Re: Chest Strap & Inflator Valve Issues
I’ve tried this but it seems to put undue pressure on the inflator, because the strap wants to migrate to its natural position while I’m horizontal.spatman wrote:When you attach the inflator, can you trap the chest strap under the inflator hose?

Chest Strap & Inflator Valve Issues
I’m having issues with my Knighthawk chest strap and inflator valve on my Bare dry suit. No matter how I gear up, with strap either on top or on the bottom of the valve the chest strap seems to migrate over the top of the valve making it difficult to inflate when I’m horizontal in the water. Has any...
