Re: semi-dry review?

I have the Oneill J-type, it's ok. I've worn the nova scotia once and I felt it kept me much drier and warmer. I got a heck of a deal on the oneill so I went for it. I'll give it a couple more dives until I start hunting for the next best thing. If I could do a side by side review of the two of them...

Re: Orcas Island Diving

We have a family place out there, so I'm sure we'll make it a bigger priority at some point to make it happen. The holiday weekend was awful for ferry traffic (duh).

Re: Orcas Island Diving

In the rush to get out of town to the ferry, the dive gear was not fit into the car. I did do some snorkeling but vis was probably 5-10' from the surface and without weight I could not dive down with my wetsuit on.

Steel 100-120 with a DIN would be on my wishlist. Also in need of a SPG.

Re: Diver Missing At Cove 2 (11am Today 2/19)

Vibes to all who knew the diver, and best wishes to those who helped out. It's amazing what we are capable of as a group, divers, skiers, climbers, etc. to help a fellow human being out.

Re: Gauges

Great info, thanks. The only kind of setup I've used is a console with a compass, spy, and depth gauge (separate gauges). I don't know anything else, like wrist mount gear. Was thinking for my compass that I'd get it on a retractor on my BC. I'm trying to get a feeler on what everyone else uses to g...

Gauges

So I'm pretty new to diving and am building up my first reg with an xtx50, an alpha 8, and my buddy's gauge set. I'm trying to do it on the cheap but also dont want to buy too many things twice. What is the go-to gauge set that will get me started for diving to tables and still have an insert for a ...

Re: Brian Skerry seminar tonight (award winning UW photog)

It was good, pretty amazing pictures, and the guy has been around the world and back a few times. The famous photos of him diving with Right Whales were pretty cool. I've been to three seasons of these shows, and I'm not sure he's the best story teller, but he did have a lot of passion which helps. ...

Re: gopro cameras?

I've been considering mounting the camera on a short, lightweight pole, and lashing it to my tank to get the overhead, out in front of me view. Will take some practice, so I don't just have 45 min. of video of the inside of bubbles. Pros: easy to dive with, just get buddy to start record at surface,...

Re: Hey

I'll be diving with my dad, who's returned to the sport after a 25 year hiatus while us kids grew up. Since we're driving from Seattle, probably go to keystone, get a fill at Oak Harbor, then either return there or go to Rosario head, unless anyone has any other recommendations.

Re: How many dive with a wetsuit in the PNW?

I just started diving in October of '10, and have about a dozen PS dives under my belt. All have been wet, with all but one in the two piece rental wetsuit. Every time in those suits I've frozen my ass off. I rented a "semi-dry" scubapro suit from Oak Harbor and it was a HUGE difference. I...
