I observed seagulls nibbling on remains of wasted sea stars at Pleasant Harbor Marina today. Has that been reported before and is it important? I don't see any other critters, like crab, picking at remains.

We usually see them mid to late summer, last summer we found them (or they found us) as usual in The Hood.

Nice pics from Flagpole! I don't get down there very often, but it's nice to have the WSA buoy to tie to when I do. It's much more accessible to everyone and it's really nice that people don't need to drop/drag an anchor there any more.

For what it's worth, there are no shellfish beach closures in Jefferson County south of Bangor. Beach closure is directly opposite the base. There's a couple small patches of cloud sponge on the West Wall of Pulali Point at about 120'. Nothing like the abundance at Flagpole or Sponge Hill, but interesting to note that it's there.

I don't know how recent you want. I saw three on dive at Sponge Hill (Hood Canal) January 2012 (yea, hard to believe but true, a once in a lifetime experience). Two other divers saw one on two separate dives that same day at the same site. One was seen at Flagpole (Hood Canal) on 8/10/12.
