Re: Triton launch ramp

There's also a good WDFW ramp at the head of Pleasant Harbor. Concrete ramp, dock and very protected from wind.

Re: Sea star die-off

I observed seagulls nibbling on remains of wasted sea stars at Pleasant Harbor Marina today. Has that been reported before and is it important? I don't see any other critters, like crab, picking at remains.

Re: Dogfish question

We usually see them mid to late summer, last summer we found them (or they found us) as usual in The Hood.

Re: Sea star die-off

I don't know how useful this observation is. At Pleasant Harbor Marina, you can see significant deterioration over the past 5 days of Ochre stars in shallow water, viewed from the ramp to D-dock. Behind my boat at the end of D-dock I had many small Ochre stars feeding on the mussels...today they are...

Re: Help US help Washington Scuba Alliance!

Papa Z .... PLEASE sent the letter. Jefferson County needs to understand the opportunity they've missed and the potential impact of their decision on local business all along Hood Canal. I'm not happy with my county officials. Before I start stomping my feet and lighting my hair on fire I need to ca...

Re: Flagpole Update 3/22/14

Nice pics from Flagpole! I don't get down there very often, but it's nice to have the WSA buoy to tie to when I do. It's much more accessible to everyone and it's really nice that people don't need to drop/drag an anchor there any more.

Re: Mooring Buoys

I'm hoping some members like Deep Diver, Don B, and other with boats and those of you that have friends with boats will send a simple message to Jefferson County. Like "We like diving Hood Canal and would like to spend a little more money in South Jefferson County. Improved access and continued...

Re: Mooring Buoys

Thanks for the replies. I agree reasonable review fees are acceptable. There is a DNR permit, and WDFW permit required and there's no issues with that. My issue is the county permit was @ $495.00 initially. The new shoreline management plan, supposedly in place to protect the environment, has someho...

Mooring Buoys

Oregon Scuba Club did a fund raiser to place another WSA mooring buoy. The chosen site was Arrowhead in Hood Canal, near Fulton Creek. A good site but hard to anchor and challenging as a live boat dive. Jefferson County has recently raised the permit cost to about $1,000.00 for the county permit. I'...

I don't post much but check in often. I've referred countless people to this site for advice, buddies, gear and so on. Calvin and the Mods have supported my little business, as they've supported others, and I appreciate it very much. Calvin, maybe it's time to try to organize another "Mod Day&q...

Re: Oil in Hood Canal?

For what it's worth, there are no shellfish beach closures in Jefferson County south of Bangor. Beach closure is directly opposite the base. We have moderate to strong southerly winds forecast through Friday night so that should help keep it out of The Hood south of Bangor. I'd go out in the boat to...

Was the flagpole buoy floating today? Thinking about taking some people down there Sunday and would like to know what to expect. Maybe I'll clean the line a little.

Bring him to dive off my boat Friday 7/5. Pay his seat, you can take a crew seat, he can use my BPW and I'll provide tanks.

Re: Cloud Sponge info

There's a couple small patches of cloud sponge on the West Wall of Pulali Point at about 120'. Nothing like the abundance at Flagpole or Sponge Hill, but interesting to note that it's there.

I don't know how recent you want. I saw three on dive at Sponge Hill (Hood Canal) January 2012 (yea, hard to believe but true, a once in a lifetime experience). Two other divers saw one on two separate dives that same day at the same site. One was seen at Flagpole (Hood Canal) on 8/10/12.

Thanks very much for the very kind words. Down Time remained at the dock today while my wonderful Wife and Grandson took me to the beach where we layed in the sun and played in the sand. Only sad part was the rest of the family had to work. Looking forward to another year of "work" on/in T...

Re: Wa. state buoy

The range does get a lot of use, more than a couple hundred days a year mostly on weekdays but sometimes on weekends. Over the past 10 years I've developed a good working relationship with the range officer and security. They have some challenges when recreational boaters don't recognize or acknowle...
