Mako K-6 Compressor

I have a Mako K-6 compressor rated for 5.1cfm. Bought it a few years ago from a dive shop. I tested it when I bought it but have never finished setting it up. I bought a new filter/water separator from comperssorstuff.com http://www.compressorstuff.com/supplies/index.html that includes a new unopene...

Re: Making hard cider

Interesting read. I got into homebrewing on a trip to the local store. I made a wrong turn down an aisle and ended up leaving with a full homebrewing set up. Then I found out I couldn't get hops locally but that is another story. Since you have access to lots of honey I have a recipe I will try to f...

Re: Boo

Interesting. I may have one of the same tanks. I will have to check dates on it when I get home tonight but from the picture it looks exactly the same. It came in a set of gear that was given to me by someone that started diving in the early 50's. There were two steel tanks with the pipe thread valv...

Re: Best B.S. story you've heard

I was getting gas a couple of years ago at a station here in Port Angeles and the attendant told me of how him and his dad used to free dive down to the bottom of the Straits halfway between here and Victoria and pick up 20lb gold bars from an old spanish shipwreck when he was a kid. He was even wil...

Try Don at Octopus Gardens Diving in Port Townsend. I had the same problem with my lower dump on my Knighthawk and I had Don order me a replacement piece. The whole thing was less than $20.

Re: Coast Guard rescues diver off Neah Bay

Were you one of the divers that ended up doing the rockpile on Tuesday? He called to ask me about some alternates but I was painting my house and didn't catch the phone until it was too late and since it has been a few years since I have done the rockpile I was curious what you thought of it. I was ...

Re: How much are you paying for viz and hydro?

I have heard as high as $20 for vis and up to $35 for hydro. Seems like $45 for hydro and vis is average out on the peninsula. I have heard as low as $35 from places as well. If you own 7 or more cylinders it is more economical just to take the PSI course and get certified to visual your own.

Let me know when you are headed this way and I will dig it out. If not I dive at the Seattle Aquarium every other Friday and I am there from 7am until at least 3pm and I could bring it along. I have several old BCDs laying around and you are welcome to any of them.

Another note a sailboat hit the jetty last week and seperated a few of the pilings. there was an article here in the local paper that said they would be repairing it soon and that the repair should be done by June 11. Here is the story: http://peninsuladailynews.com/article/20140604/NEWS/306049973/0...

Re: Ediz Hook, Port Angeles

Even the people I know that work there don't know why it is considered a security zone. All I know is that after Sept 2001 a sign went up and the area was closed to divers entering from the shore. It is not a security zone as far as boat traffic goes. I wish it were still open as it is by far the be...

Re: Ediz Hook, Port Angeles

I am not sure how large the security zone is, I would assume at least 100yds. I am in the process of putting a charter boat together and my partner in the venture works for the pilots (Pilot boat operator) so I will ask him this evening when I get down to the boat how big the security zone is. This ...

Re: Ediz Hook, Port Angeles

You have to swim directly under the Puget Sound Pilots station to reach the rockpile without entering from the USCG base. There is really no way around the pilot station for a shore entry. The PSP house and dock is located directly west of the boat ramp before the fish pens. You could possibly scoot...

Re: Ediz Hook, Port Angeles

Yes there is a GREAT dive between the Puget Sound Pilot station and the fish pens called the Rockpile. Unfortunately it can only be accessed by boat now because of maritime security issues. You used to enter by the boat ramp and swim out under the pilot station but that is no more. The last time I g...

Re: interested?

The Jones act does cover any vessel regardless of size but you can apply to MARAD with a $500 application fee and a bit of research involved to obtain a waiver to the Jones act. Even with a waiver vessels are restricted to 12 or less passengers regardless of inspection. There are also some very stri...

Re: AL 80 Hydro

Generally through a dive shop you would be looking at around $45 dollars or less for hydro, vis, and fill. There was a bad alloy used pre 89 in the AL80 tanks which have caused a small number of them to fracture at or near the base of the threads. Not all tanks have the bad alloy but MOST dive shops...

Re: Ediz Hook, Port Angeles

The dive by the repeater tower about 3/4 of a mile closer to town is another great spot for seeing fish. West of the repeater tower (closer to the mill) is more or less dead. From the entry point listed above there is also an old tug around 75fsw depending on tides. All that is left is the old boile...

Re: Logging dives?

I stopped logging dives at around 850 in 2006. I spent a few years doing almost exclusively working dives and didn't really care to read "rudder inspection" in my log. That said going back through my dive log has pushed me into diving for fun again. I was amazed to read through some of my ...
