So when are they going to add a cellular repeater on a smb and reel, and a blutooth enabled full face mask?

Re: Help with data recovery
I've played with Recova by piriform, which is free. It shows lots of data on the hdd, but I haven't ACTUALLY used it to recover anything yet.

My wife is from there, and we go to see her family all the time. If one our trips meshes with one of yours I'll definitely hit you up for lessons. At the very least it'll give her something to laugh at on the shore.

Re: Joining the 21st century- must-have apps?
Tapatalk for NW Dive Club Boards is a good one. Mortplayer for audio books is a recent discovery of mine, good for long solo drives. There's a dive log app that interfaces with the Divelog software. I like Cool Reader for books. Kindle only uses books from amazon (afaik), but cool reader is free, an...

Re: DIN vs YOKE
I converted my Aqualung Legend to DIN, and dive Worthington HP130's without an issue. But if I travel, I can just slap on the din-to-yoke adapter. I THINK the conversion kit had the parts to adjust the internal workings to the higher pressure, but since I didn't do the actual install I could be wron...

Welcome!
I don't see a problem with doubles on the bus, but be sure to take your fins off before boarding or you could trip granny.

Re: DIY thread
ABS Goodman handle 2.0, this one requested by nwgratefuldiver. I used the router table and a 1/8" straight bit to put slots in this one to make it adjustable. It's a little rougher than the original, since the ABS kept sticking to the foil I was heating on in the oven, but 3 tries later I got a...

Re: Hello from KPN
IMHO, I would really recommend renting a few wetsuits first. Lots of shops should have something to fit, and you'll get a feeling for what fits you. At least try to find one that you could try on. They're designed to fit tight, and at almost 100lbs heavier than rated, it might be waaaaay too tight. ...

Re: Hello from KPN
I'm 6'5, 300lbs. I started with a 4xl Bare Elastek 7mm wetsuit, with a 7mm Elastek shortie over the top. Kept me nice and warm and fit really well. Now it's retired at 35 dives, and I've upgraded to a 4xl Whites Fusion drysuit, which also fits really well. I even have some room to spare as the size ...

Re: Advice on a drysuit
+1 on White's Fusion, although it's my first and only drysuit. I have good range of motion, and they're designed to fit a wide range of people instead of being custom fit. Think of an oversize trash bag that is sucked tight by a super stretchy over-suit and you'll get the idea. It's self donning, wh...

Re: DIY thread
Nice. I'd recommend at least running a bungee across the top to keep the light in, just in case. Preferrable, if you could find a way to "lock it in". D It snaps into the holder rather well, actually. I had pondered the bungee idea, but I've also been looking into different options for a ...

Re: DIY thread
So my first attempt and DIY SCUBA gear is a hard Goodman handle for my DRIS dive light. To be honest, it's a blatant copy of the light bracket that they sell to go with it. Started life as a 4"x2' section of ABS pipe (black PVC) that I slit lengthwise on my table saw and softened in the oven. T...

Re: Looking for a great inexpensive light?
This is an interesting thread. Illustrates a big change. When did we start thinking a flashlight that cost $90 is inexpensive? Must be we are part of the 1%, eh? I actually sold a Surefire Aviator A2 I was issued on a deployment to buy one of these. Retail on the SF is $200 or so, and it was an eas...

Could you send descriptions to the local shops, and maybe the online boards? Customized scuba gear is relatively unique, and divers are a small community. Maybe something will pop up on craigs list.

Current Navy Dive Manual
If anyone is interested, I stumbled across the Navy's Dive Manual (v6) as a 992-page PDF. I didn't see it on here (other than the 1904 version), so I thought I would post the download link. It's free, by the way: http://www.supsalv.org/pdf/DiveMan_rev6.pdf It's got a pretty good chunk on the history...

Re: Time for a quick trip to Alaska!
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I thought that the basic rule of marine salvage was "finders keepers", or if the original owner wants the goods then they make a payment to the salvager comparable to the value recovered - how could a rival salvage company get a restraining order ...
