Re: Mares Power Plana fins
Not actually looking particularly for a lighter fin. As a matter of fact, I want a heavier, sturdier fin to accommodate the modified kicks. I've been diving my Volo for at least 5 years and am very happy with it, other than situations where I really have to perform a back frog kick or helicopter ki...

Re: Ron Akeson RIP.
Ron was my go-to guy when I lived in Bellingham. I never had the opportunity to dive with him, but spent countless hours in his shop while waiting for air fills discussing gear, NW dive sites, etc.
Best wishes to all his friends and family in the difficult time.

Re: WTB oms slipstream fins
With typhoon drysuit boots (size 10 I believe) My 3XL turtle fins fit very well, no constriction & no slop, XL jet fins are very tight. Changing to a different boot the XL would probably work. I've read one comparison which said the 2XL slipstream has a near identical foot pocket to the 3XL turt...

I'm looking to get a pair of slipstream fins, if anyone has a pair they're willing to part with, it'll save me an internet order.

Re: New, high value & affordable handheld dive lights
I have a DGX 600 on order as well. I just replaced my dead big blue can light with the dgx 8700, and if the quality of the 600 is anything like the 8700 it should be an excellent light for the money.

Re: Keep it simple.
I've used cable ties in the past for a quick fix, and although I keep them in my bag of spares, I also carry a length of 550 cord and a lighter for a more permanent solution.

Re: go pros
One other thing to keep in mind. My setup was very floaty before I set it up to open one end cap to put water inside. After filling it with water it sinks like a rock. Before I made my handle I would use the head band for it. The only problem there is that if it falls off you might not know it so I...

Re: go pros
I've managed since decent video over the years with mine, the old Hero 960. The only modification I did was install an aftermarket lens, since there was no factory flat lens housing available at the time.

I've got lots of extra lead as well as some spare cylinders. Not to mention all the other spare gear I have. I'm on the Eastside as well with most Fridays and weekends free for diving. Probably headed out this weekend too.

I'm planning to be out at Mukilteo first or near first thing Saturday morning to fiddle with gear arrangements, mainly different weights. Looking at getting out Sunday as well, work has kept me dry for too long (3 weeks now).

I'm up for trying to get some crab, summer season was great on the days I made it out. I'm thinking of heading out at 0-dark-30 Friday morning (I'm up at 0430 every day anyway), see whats left at the T-dock if anyone wants to join.

I'm available most evenings, though it's difficult for me to get into seattle on week days since I live and work in woodinville. I try to make it out to mukilteo on the weekend, usually doing a night dive or two.
Welcome aboard.

Re: TSA and Dive gear
SEATAC TSA sees dive gear every day. They generally just swab it and let you go. Canister light batteries (in particular) are too dense for them to see well and look like a bomb too. Remember not to joke about anything prohibited and to pack knives in checked baggage. Precisely why I'm not taking o...
