Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Bassman, the small jar might have been a small glass for drinking the VINO CHINATO / PADRES WINE TONIC."

Your syrup / cruet glassware is pretty cool, again no real value but an unusual find. Based on the style of the pressed glass I would say 1910-1920 on that one.

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi H2ODoctor... ahh... so close on that neat Case Gin bottle. These are pretty common but very attractive old bottles, with nicely applied top and crudeness. They held Dutch Gin, from The Netherlands. They come unembossed like your example, and there are also lots of embossed varients from many Dutc...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Alaska-Herb, that Seattle Bottlers Association is pretty common, sorry to say, dates from the 1920-30 period. Would have had a paper label to give soda type and contents. Value probably less that $5 but a fun find. The others are super common, sorry to say. And you are right on the time period fo...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Sitka Diver, yes, all commons but that Orange Crush from Centralia is a better example. I've not seen that one before, have had plenty from other towns. The Fox Snappy Drinks is the typical odd style deco bottle from the 1920's-30's. The Davis Vegetable Pain Killer is a cool bottle, yours look sc...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Jackie, sorry to say I don't have any info on that bottle. Assuming it is that same "deco" style bottle as the Seattle example, it dates from the 1920's, and probably was a flavor bottle (Orange, Lemon, Grape soda) from the Coca Cola bottler. Not much value, but a neat item nonetheless....

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Sitkadiver, those Russian bottles sound good, especially since they would be quite old and from the early days of Alaska being settled by the Russians. And actually there are a fair amount of SE Alaska embossed drug store bottles, I've seen them embossed from Douglas, Wrangell, Ketchikan, Juneau,...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Nice pics of the bottles and china, sitkadiver! I knew of some old timers that dove off Port Townsend WA and they found many of the USN Medical Department and U.S. Marine Hospital bottles. They are pretty old, dating from the 1880-1910 time period. Have you found any Alaska embossed medicine or phar...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Dive Monkey, thanks for keeping this thread alive! :) You are correct, this is a medicine / pharmacy bottle. Because the top of the bottle shows a "reinforced" double lip style, it would date after 1910. If there is an "Owens Ring" on the underside of the base, it is a machine...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Dive Monkey, a cool find with original contents! The bottle itself is super common, again, a very successful company that produced millions of these bottles over the years. From the photos, yours looks like either a machine made cork top or a machine made transitional tab top bottle, dating from ...

Hi Citycatred! You have a Washington State wine bottle, from 1957. These screw top bottles decorated with grapes and grape leaves were popular in the 1950's. No real value here but something fun to find diving!

Re: The Bottle Thread

Happy to help out on the value / money / rarity question! And I am attracted to old bottles for all of these reasons, the history, the fun of holding a 100+ year old artifact, the fun of the hunt to find bottles, and the monetary value. This answer may be a bit general but should fit most bottle cat...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Buck Naked! 1. Your Cammarano Bros bottle is an example of the classic 1920's-early 1930's Deco style soda bottle, in clear glass, crown top machine made. All sorts of weird shapes were made for the soda bottlers of that time period, J G Fox of Seattle, some of the oddball Coca Cola flavor bottle...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Dive Monkey! Your neat greenish amber bottle is the classic Japanese Beer or Sake bottle, with both English and Japanese characters embossed. It most likely dates from the late teens to late 1920's, and looks like a crown top bottle. With the sea commerce between Asia and the Western United State...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Buck! A couple of neat bottles you have, both are from very successful companies and hence are quite common but cool! 1. The Red Top Rye was put out by Ferdinand Westheimer. At the young age of 34, Ferdinand arrived in Saint Joseph in early 1859 on the just complete Hannibal & St. Joseph Rail...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi BuckNaked! Your Buckeye Extract Company is a very common bottle. I've dug probably 100 or more of these while digging bottles here in Western Washington, and have even found them as far away as Montana! The quantity of these bottles out there indicate that the company was very successful. They pu...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Tom, I suspect the "31" is the mold number, and the "2" is a partial date code, making production of this bottle sometime after 1922 but still in the 1920's. I am doing a bit of research on the shoulder embossing. I've seen your bottle before but can't remember offhand which b...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Dusty 2, you are correct, but you can actually break down the dating of the bottle a bit more. Generally speaking, if the mold lines fade out before the top of the bottle, then the bottle has been blown into a mold, usually by a glassblower. On most bottles dating from the late 1880's and OLDER, ...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Scubie Doo! Yours is an older bottle, dating from the 1890's -1900, hand blown in a mold. It is a food bottle, most likely peppersauce, relish, etc. I've dug these before, they are fairly common, no real value, but still a cool diving find. I like the water wash and light iridescence in the bottle!

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Chris, you bottles date from the 1930's -1940's. Here is some info... 1. The clear bottle is a food / relish / sauce bottle, looks like a screw top or modified cap top. The "H/A" marking on the underside of the base represents the Hazel-Atlas Glass Co., one of the largest producers of f...

Hi BuckNaked! A neat bottle, not valuable but still historically cool! The YUNCKER BOTTLING CO can trace it's history back to 1889, when John Frank YUNCKER opened his bottling works at 519 South G Street in Tacoma. In 1890, George H. Hanlin became a partner in the business and the address became 131...

Re: The Bottle Thread

Hi Spatman, happy to help out! You are correct, this is a large wine / liquor bottle with Washington State Liquor Control Board seal near the front heel of the bottle. Being screw top, it would date from the post prohibition era most likely early 1940's-1950's. The bottle is machine made, you can se...
