Re: Easter-Meg Dive??

well, i was kinda toying with a cove 1 to cove 2 (or vice versa) traverse, as it would be way fun to get video with a google of meg divers and something like the i-beams and stuff in background :)

wife taking care of baby so you can dive sounds like a fantastic reason to set it for saturday!

Re: Easter-Meg Dive??

ya, i've never tried to organize a dive for a group of CCR divers either ;)

its easy with OC, no real grey area, full or not full... but obviously CCR brings a lot of variation with regards to what someone might consider 'adequate' resources to do the dive :)

Re: Easter-Meg Dive??

well, all i'm asking is that people don't show up with the dredges... as an organized dive, i would prefer it to be as safe as possible, the 'recommended' max on my canister is 4 hrs, and yes, i realize that some peeps run the same out to 6, but that is neither here nor there... so i guess i'm askin...

Re: Is this a crazy amount of weight?

are you taking into account the valves/bands on your 'empty' tanks? (and are those empty 400psi empty or just kinda empty 1000psi empty) ;) big fluffy wooly thing won't hold as much air as say thinsulate or powerstretch. It's not designed to loft the same way. Though the weezle booties probably add ...

Re: Is this a crazy amount of weight?

yes, that is a lot of weight given your 'specs'. Even with non-divespecific undergarments. as a new drysuit diver if you had said "37" with an AL 80, and a jacket BCD I'd bite, WITH THE UNDERSTANDING that after you got some real undergarments and some dives "under your belt" you'...

Re: Easter-Meg Dive??

so i kinda posted without any info, i am trying to organize a little get together for local meg divers. i saw the name easter-meg, and thought with all the meggie hatchlings it would be cool to organize a group of meg divers so the gear is mostly familiar and our training is similar. maybe make some...

Re: Mukilteo, 3/27/09 -- Thank you, Nwbrewer!

diving to show your buddy a good time is all well and good, but you also have to dive for -you-... the little things are part of the amazing beauty of our local playground... to much 'doing other peoples dives' leads to burnout, or at very least, a feeling of diminishing return. its okay to be a bit...

Re: Open Water training standards-split from "fatality at Sund R

that skill was in fact a part of the NAUI Leadership curriculum in the old days. I assume it still is to some degree. In the mid 90's we actually did do it with our Openwater students as well, usually the last pool session (they had 6) when we'd run out of other things to do with them... That and th...

Re: Open Water training standards-split from "fatality at Sund R

Why would you ditch your gear and take only your pony? That does not make sense. it overly complicates things. the pony is not for panic ascents. it is to give you the option of a controlled ascent, as opposed to the old "blow and go" (AKA drop your weight belt, flare and scream all the wa...

Re: Open Water training standards-split from "fatality at Sund R

Yup... thats why i chose NAUI way back when, and chose to stay with it even though I see the current curriculum as watered down. Here is another direct quote from my friend (a very good PADI instructor) "be sure to say that PADI does not force instructors to not teach additional material but we...

Re: Open Water training standards-split from "fatality at Sund R

Okay, here is something I gotta say. Standard equipment on a recreational scuba divers rig is a pressure gauge. we hammer hammer hammer in 'look at your gauge'. ALL agencies that i've been able to find DO mention methods of gas management. 1) watching your gauge so that you have a good idea of where...

Re: Fatality at Sund Rock 3/22/09

Mods, can we split this thread? I think the discussion of what is and isn't taught in OW classes is a very valid discussion. I will ask my friends and co-instructors one who holds both NAUI and PADI instructor cards and one who is an IT for PADI what their understanding with regards to teaching SAC ...

Re: Fatality at Sund Rock 3/22/09

We've been teaching SAC rates and gas management to OW students for years in the NAUI program (the only one i know). It's a requirement last time I checked my standards. I will look at my boyfriends OW manual to confirm when I get home, but I think it's still in the basic curriculum. Dammit, Dammit,...
