Re: Spearfishing in seattle area

Recommendation is to head out to Neah Bay / straits to get your Spearo on. The critters in the main sound are under a lot of pressure from pollution and sport fishing as it stands and we need all the breeding stock possible intact. I realize the regulation allow it but since you asked... :) There is...

Re: diving in current

You might want to look a little bit more into this ‘tumbling’/destabilization, it might indicate you and your kit are way out of balance. It sounds like your buddy was not getting tumbled so perhaps discuss the experience with him and understand why he is more stable than you underwater. This compou...

Re: Sixgill sightings: database?

+1 I was part of a project at the Seattle Aquarium about 10 years ago as a volunteer diver where we set up a bait station and would tag sharks and take biopsy samples. They have been maintaining a database of sightings. When last I talked with Jeff Christiansen (SA DSO and biologist) he said that th...

Re: What Kills Sixgill Sharks

Reached out to a friend at the Coastal Watershed Institute in Port Angeles and she was able to send a couple interns over to the boat launch and they collected DNA sample and also the mesh bag for further investigation. Will be meeting them and getting the samples handed off to Seattle Aquarium staf...

Re: What Kills Sixgill Sharks

Likely this type of bag, http://a.co/d/b2rGulJ but apparently being the scavengers that they are will, they will poach from recreational traps anytime they can and it sounds like any of the bait bags could be bad news for sub-adult sixgill sharks. This is not a new concern, apparently there was disc...

Re: What Kills Sixgill Sharks

Awesomeness! Thank you! Your picture is on its way to WDFW! If anyone else knows of a sixgill carcass currently accessible on any regional beaches it would be amazing if you could share that information here perhaps? I’ve been chatting with Jeff C. And if we could gather a small tissue sample and fr...

Re: What Kills Sixgill Sharks

Interesting. Thank you so much for posting. After the 4th (known of) stranding/wash up in a couple months I reached out to friend at the aquarium and he recommended that if the scientists can’t get there to do a necropsy that we check for exactly what you found. May I forward your picture on to them?

Re: Local flight with a scuba tank - is it doable?

Another work around is to get sidemount training and roll with a couple of 80’s with travel rigs ;) (i know i know, blasphemy, but gets you more gas if you need it). Or use one on your back and one with travel rig as a stage bottle if you have the training. Lots of ways to skin the proverbial cat. I...

Re: Options for video light - Sola 3800 S/F vs. FantaSea Radiant 3000 vs ???

my dive buddy and I are big fans of the SOLA lights. On the smaller lights that work with it, we use the diffusion dome for even wider/smoother light (the SOLA Video Pro LE aka a 3800 with the dome)

Maui Diving! #360video

Still rather rough but thought folks might enjoy a bit of warm water fun... We got out with Capt. Charley and Scuba Shack and stayed in their condos. As in the past, the dives and service was impeccable and I wouldn't not hesitate to recommend his operation to anyone visiting Maui. Topside footage s...

Re: Attached Drysuit Boots Cause Floaty Feet?

Hi Good thread. I have a buddy who has taken up the following body position. They dive with F1's. Any insights on if a weight shift would help get the knees up more? If so, weights lower down or higher up? Thanks!! body.jpg It’s often easier on lower back to drop knees. (Meaning it may not always b...

Re: Attached Drysuit Boots Cause Floaty Feet?

+1000 for what CaptJack says. Find a good mentor or instructor who can help you dial things in. It took me a few tries, but once I found someone who helped me do this to my tanks it was like night and day. Quote from that day: "Your trim is good but you are workin' way way way to hard for it&qu...

another mock-up... this time about plankton. In the next week or so Mocap Now will be helping me refine the hands on the avatar and then sooner than later i'll get an iPhone X for when i record the narration so that her face is correct and in sync with the words :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx...

#avatareducator for the underwater world

This is something i've been toying with for quite a while and this past weekend technology and opportunity finally collided.... The avatar and narration are not sync'd up but this is just a really rough first try from the weekend hackathon (meaning it was done in under 48 hours) it was originally do...
