Re: which dive computer to get
My wife and I use the first generation Cobalt computers. The second generation models have a much faster compass and an even better display. That being said, I wanted to switch to a wrist-mounted computer so I got a Shearwater Petrel 2. No air integration but a ton of other features that put it over...

Cove 2 is better today than it was just two days ago. About 15-20 feet. Not exactly clear though, some whale snot remains.

Roatán with Lynne, Coll, and Janney
I along with my wife recently returned from a trip to Roatán that we took with Coll and Janney Jaxon. First off, major kudos to Janney for superb logistics. This was a FANTASTIC trip. All four of us agree, the diving (and the dive operators) could not have been better. We averaged four dives a day f...

Re: Big tank to borrow?
To pile on a bit, you are probably going to want to be on 100% O2 at the onset of symptoms. So unless you have a bunch of D cylinders with you, Airlift Northwest (and what I assume is an onboard O2 supply) would be a better option.

Two puns - one sentence: "under their wing", Halcyon or Hollis and "show me the ropes" as in Redondo, Edmonds, Mukilteo, Keystone, Cove 1, and Cove 2?
Touché
Welcome to the board.

Re: Cove 2 Seal
Has anyone given this seal a name yet? I'm talking about the lighter colored one with the tan patch on it's lower left hand flank. I've seen it on like, 90% of the dives I've done at Cove 2 for the last few months. I feel like if it's that much of a regular, it should have a name. Fishchomp McSilts...

After looking at your video I have come to the conclusion that Cove 2 of Seattle doesn't hold a candle to Cove 2 of Sydney.

That is good advice, think dry suit.CaptnJack wrote:...I would not recommend a wetsuit or "semi-wet" (also known by the more positive but illusionary term "semi-dry") for anyone male or female in Puget Sound. Its not a path towards long term enjoyable diving.

Re: How many dives do you get out of your argon cylinder?
I haven't used Argon since I bought the Santi vest, though. My dives on a single 100 cu. ft. tank have been getting up to an hour long and now that I am diving doubles, my bottom time is only going to increase. Cold is becoming a limiting factor. I saw the Santi vest in a LDS recently. Looked impre...

Much appreciated on all the advice, just wanted to be sure before making a hole! I have another question regarding setup. I thought that you might be stationed at NAS Whidbey. From the main gate you are 17 miles away from one of the better dive sites in Puget Sound, the Keystone Jetty. If you have not yet been there, do know that the site IS CURRENT SENSITIVE. Search this forum and you'll find lots of information about...

Using Subway Trains as Reef Material
Over on the "other" coast, 2,500 subway trains have been placed into the Atlantic as reef building material. The cars are said to have been stripped and cleaned leaving a carbon steel shell. Is dumping carbon steel into the ocean really a good idea? Just curious. http://www.cnn.com/2015/02...
