Nauticam E-M5mkII camera rig, wide angle lens and Port
Upgraded to a new system so my old one is up for sale. It's an Olympus E-M5mkII micro 4/3 camera, Nauticam housing with vacuum valve, dome port, and Panasonic 7-14mm wide angle lens with 3D printed zoom gear. This was my wide angle setup for a while until I got a new camera and a WWL port. Camera an...

Re: BazillionQuestionsRegardingGearConfiguration
I dive with an 80ish cuft and a 100cuft with a side slung pony. Most people here that I see tend to favor HP80's or HP100's. My dives are typically anywhere from 50-90 min depending on depth. I dive a long hose, no issues. There's plenty of places that you can go as deep as you want to from shore. N...

There's also Kitsap County to consider. Way cheaper, with still fairly easy access. Might want to take a ferry to some sites, but way less traffic this side as well. I live on Bainbridge Island which isn't really any cheaper, but the rest of Kitsap is significantly less.

Sund Rock today, murky above 20ft like usual. Below that was maybe a snotty 15-20ft? Wind/waves/current kicked our butts though. 4 massive GPOs on the south wall, one was on eggs and looked like she was pretty well wasted away at this point.

So what are the details about this vacation did you get on a boat go over to the island rent all your gear ? Or did you bring your own gear stay on the island for a couple of days... ? I did it in Feb of 2019. I brought my dive gear and we stayed on the island for a few days. Just rented tanks (and...

Re: Good Sites for Low Tide?
Usually best visibility occurs just as the tide is reaching it's peak. That being said, low tide is fine too. Just worry more about currents depending on the site. http://www.deepzoom.com for planning currents and such for diving. Usually <0.5 knots is what you want. Some sites aren't current depend...

What's at Jack's reef? I don't think I've been there before. I've been out to the barnacle reef once or twice on favorable current days.

Rockaway Beach on Bainbridge 5/16 was about 10ft at best, more like 5ft in the shallows. Lots of nudis out though.

Re: How do you store and travel with your photography equipment?
Just saw this now, but since you have a TG-6 and a couple lights, you don't need a huge bag for your camera gear. I use this insert in a normal backpack for my carryon when I fly. I shoot an Olympus E-M5mkII so it's a larger setup than yours, so you should be perfectly fine with this. If you search ...

Nice photos. I'm surprised you saw a whale shark since it's out of season there. We did October in 2016 on the Aggressor and doing it again next October. I wasn't lucky enough to get the dolphins you did, but we got some pilot whales. The boat before us had a pod of Orca come through which I'm insan...

Sea & Sea YS-D2J Underwater Camera Strobe (SOLD)
EDIT: Sold on Wetpixel. Up for sale is my YS-D2J (updated japanese made version, not original D2). It's had maybe 50-60 dives on it, still in great condition, never flooded. Selling because I switched to a pair of Inon z240's. Looking to get $500 for it. New is $689 plus tax. https://i.imgur.com/JL3...

Interesting that there was only 3 cages for you guys. When I was on the Explorer we had 4 so there was plenty of room. I think I was in the water for over 24hrs total over the 3 days. I tried to use strobes when I did it but found that it just didn't work very well. All my shots that were natural li...

Nice shots. Last time I did Point Hudson I didn't read the tides correctly and got my butt kicked in the current. Still need to learn the quirks on that site and when to get in.

Nice photos, Derek. Yours are better than that person's instagram you linked, especially the second one. From what I was told, there are a number of dive shops in China giving out fake certifications and not really teaching students. It's something that's popped up and exploded in the last 5-10 year...

Adding to this, but if you get separate plates, rig up a new harness so you don't need to transfer it over. Webbing is cheap. Just transfer the wing and tank bands.CaptnJack wrote:I would just get a steel and separate ali plates. But two plates is actually cheaper.

Good call on the Retra LSD. I just got one in the mail yesterday. Wasn't there for this week, but I got this lumpie shot last week. This was with one normal flash and the second had a homemade 3D printed snoot on it. No ability to aim it other than guess at it. Gave in and bought the LSD instead fin...

Re: Do strobes blind fish?
Generally I try to only take a couple shots and leave the fish be. If they didn't turn out like I wanted, then I'll go somewhere else for a bit and then come back to try again. Don't like flashing them unnecessarily.
